Punto problem
mookaloid - 24/7/06 at 11:45 AM

A bit off topic but has anyone replaced the swinging arm bearings in a punto ('98 vintage)?

It looks as if I can just take the long bolt out, drop the arm down and replace the bearings 'in situ' without taking the whole thing off.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance

Mark

never been anywhere near a punto, but that sounds like Haynes pseak to me - i.e. far too easy

im in the trade and and a new arm is 15mins to fit you might find the kit takes a bit longer

What is the procedure?

Get new arm, bolt & nut from dealer (£30 ish).
Jack car up, remove road wheel, remove brake drum, undo brake hose mounting plate, release brake cable from arm, undo brake back plate from arm, undo lower damper mounting from arm, undo nut from long bolt. Remove long bolt, remove old arm & discard.
Pick up new arm, raise into place and fit new bolt & nut. Refit & retighten as in removal but reverse order.
J.D.
Have yourself a nice cold beer to congratulate yourself on a job well done.
