Im after a new laptop anyone got any recommendations. It has to have wireless and dvd/cd writer onboard.

Don't know about the UK, but in this part of the world the Toshiba Satellite series are considered among the best...low price, most reliable, tons of features. I just bought one with everything, for $999 CDN (roughly 400 pounds)....

For work I use a HP/Compaq and I have to say its a good piece of kit. pretty bulletproof. Dropped it several times and I lug it about on the back of a motorbike everyday. Not missed a beat yet.

Don't know how much they cost though.

We only use Fujitsu siemens now and very good they are too, mine is over 2 years old and faultless, got about 30 out with customers and no returns yet!!

I would recommend the AMILO L1310G 1.50GHz DVD+/-RW @ 499 inc VAT its a good beast, just had some go out and am planning to upgrade to one myself when the next lot arrive,

Just bought a Sony vaio for the wifey, £650 and it is superb. as with anything - you get what you pay for.....

Get an ASUS or a Toshiba (both very good)

asus are the only ones offering a zero white spot guarantee on the screens (i.e. no pixels on the screen that are white all the time - the most annoying fault on a screen possible)

if you've got the cash asus do a carbon fibre one (very light and strong)
also for those with more money than taste an official Lamborghini one and a leather coverd one

I've used asus laptops and other pc parts for years and never had a problem (and no I don't work for or have any intrest in the company)

don't get a Fujitsu siemens (even people I know that work for siemens don't like them)

don't get any thing with a celeron (if you budget is that tight get a reconditioned second-hand one)

what do you use it for ?
what do you do that slows down your old computer(s) the most ?

spend as much as you can afford to now and you shouldn't need to replace it for anything up to 6 years with little more than a clean up and maybe a memory upgrade and a new battery (if you get a celeron you'll want a faster one next month)
