Ka Tin Top
RichardK - 9/8/06 at 05:37 PM

Just taken the missus's tin top into a tyre place for a couple of front tyres, they are telling me that the front lower wishbone bushes are also knackered and need replacing.

Quoting £200 for the repair is this resonable or are they trying to have my pants down?

Car is an S Reg 1.3

Cheers

Rich

It's called opportunist selling. They are working on the basis that it is too much trouble for you to take it away and find a more reasonable price.

If I were you, I would steer clear of them and even buy the tyres somewhere else. These people make me really cross. £200 is extortionate.

Steer clear mate or make sure theyr definatley gone. Lower arms arnt that expensive and arnt much to change.

if i remember rightly they are held in by 2 bolts and the ball joint and will take about 20 minutes a side to change and are about 30 quid a side. if you can build a 7 then you can change wishbones!

Was the Jolly Roger fluttering in the breeze on their company flagpole?

If the lower arms are like Fiesta's they are a doddle and cost f**k all for a complete unit. Get under there and sort it yourself, 3/4hr per side if they go like the Fiesta and cost about £22 each when I did them. If it includes the arms and the new tyres it's not bad but otherwise tell them no thank you.

ive replaced mine twice - full wishbone with bushes £40 notes a side! - held on with 3 bolts...

Well over the top.

bones should be around £30 the pair. Easy job and no more than an hour a piece.

Did the 200 include the KY jelly ?

RichardK - 9/8/06 at 08:25 PM

Thanks Guys, I'll give their kind offer a miss then I thought the parts would be about £40 but thought the rest might be in labour if they were right pigs to do.

So scruply time, do I tell the missus yes 200 is right, I go and do them when she's not there, that would give me 160 to spend at the Harrogate show on Sunday.

or

Save her a load of money and let her show me how gratefull she is

Wonder how you do a vote thingy on here

Thanks again for all of your comments.

Cheers

Rich

Were there bales of hay and water troughs in the staff car park?

Bet you daren't try the second option? If you can build a seven you can fit the arms no problem . Can't remember if the Ka is the same as some of the Fiesta's but if they have a small individual subframes each side I find it quicker to drop the subframe and change the arm on the bench . Makes it easier to get in place.
