What sort of improvment would i be likely to see by changing from standard to greenstuff pads?

Just trying to work out if it would be worth it

I've heard mixed stories about the green stuff pads - crumble to dust, wear your disks, etc, etc. However, I have no personal experience so take a pinch of salt with that!

Many people here seem to rate Mintex 1144 pads very highly - I'm considering whether to move to them in the near future.

Mind you, I've locked my front wheels fairly often with the bog-standard material I'm currenlty using, so it's really not a big issue for me!

I can get my front wheels to lock but only very very just and i mean pushing hard!

I am thinking that something needs to be done but i am not sure what. Thought i would try pads first

I recently swopped to Mintex 1144's and have noticed a huge improvement, they have already proved themselves doing an emergency stop!!!

A mate of mine is using Ferodo DS2500 pads, (Demon Tweeks £50 or so set) and uses them on loads of track days to great affect,
dont know anyone myself using greenstuff pads, so cant comment,

Ferodo DS2500 are excellent - a bit lethergic when cold but once you have temperature in the discs (especially track-day type temperatures) they're just awesome. Still pretty effective on the road, just not as good as when they're up to temperature.

You may want to consider reducing the size of your master cylinder if you are struggling to lock the car up. Plus give the disks a good clean with brake cleaner to get rid of any grease and dirt.

As for pads - Green stuff are okay. They work fairly well from cold and on a light car under normal road conditions I doubt you'll have any issues with the pads. On track they can overheat and fade a bit. Red Stuff might be better.

I have switched to Hawk black pads which are a bit wooden when cold but on track work a lot better than the greenstuff ones.

I too have heard good things about Mintex 1144 and apparently (although stupidly expensive) Pagid Blues are pretty good too.

I soldiered on for years with standard pads, the brakes where pretty hopeless.

Looked at all sorts of pads , finally went for Mintex 1144's , they are really good from cold, they are really progressive , the more you push the more you stop , I can even lock the front wheels now.

Also used them on one trackday (wet) , no problems no sign of fading.

I have the EBC green stuff pads and discs fitted to my fiesta. They stop the car much faster and can take more punishment than the standards but I do have air ducts cooling them. When you factor in the money you really cant do much better for the road.

Another thumbs up for Greenstuff - ideal for road use and they produce less dust than usual.
