Mondeo ST24

These any good?

After seeing the article in the recent PPC mag, a mate of mine quite fancies one.

They are going for quite cheap on ebay and dont look in too bad condition.

Otherwise what cars would you recommend for around £1500 with a bit of poke (and the ability to tow a trailer so i can borrow his services every so often! )

Cheers

Love my 3 litre Omega Elite. Nothing has depreciated quite like them!! My mate had a much lower mileage Mondeo V6 and it was horrible in comparison to me meggy. Correct wheel drive and packed with cow and toys.

I nearly bought an ST24 myself but i took the sensible option and got a diesel. Very nice cars. Drive well and go like hell. They can be chipped up easily. Id still buy one if i could afford to run it. Theres some un bodykitted st24's about which go for less money and the kit is cheap from breakers.

TBH though as said above. Im not fan of vauxhall but the omega v6 is a nice car. You can get elites cheap which have all the toys and are powerfull and rwd for fun.

Yep Omega for power and comfort as per my v6 tourer estate.

Hi,
I am currently running a 1998 Mondeo 2.5 GhiaX (same engine as ST24) which bought for £200 including 10 months tax!!

Great car to drive and its got all the goodies (leather, air con, traction control, cruise control ect.ect)

But fuel consumption not that good 33 on a run and 20 around town and you've got a trip computer there reminding you of this all the time

nissan primera gt very underated cheaper to insure better fuel economy and you'll still find it in the car park when you return and quicker than the mondeo but you do need to get over the paki taxi stigma (sorry to all our ethnic cousins nothing racial just not politically correct i know ) go test drive one against the mondeo you'l see the diffrence

The ST24 is ok, reasonable handling car for the size but really not that quick, and the engine is surprisingly lacking in torque for a 2.5L V6.

Make sure a high miler has had a recent clutch though, they cost a fortune as it's a pretty misserable job to change one. Like all Mondeos they suffer from worn suspension bushes at relatively low mileages. Don't forget the plastic water pump impellers that fall off and cook the engine!
