Afternoon all,

I'm trying to source a small amount of plastic sheeting (about 2-4mm thick) that can be formed using heat (some lips bent in), and is resistance to battery acid spills.

My first thoughts would be to use some Polypropylene sheeting, but I am having problems sourcing a sheet about 1 metre wide and 500mm long. most places I have approached want to sell me lots of sheets, or huge sheets, which is not really economical for me.

I have thought about using some of the plastic glazing stuff that you can get in DIY shops (polycarbonate I beleive). Does anyone know if this is resistance to battery acid? I'm sure it can be formed using heat, but it's chemical resistance is unknown to me.

Check Yellow Pages for a plastic supplier and ask for 'Darvic'. It's an industrial grade PVC. I,ve used it for various applications and it is easy to work. Generally comes in grey. I used 3mm sheet and it forms ok, if you are careful.

look for a local sign writer/maker they usually have all sorts of stuff and may be able to offer you an off-cut.

You could always get a sealed racing battery
