VAT on brake caliper surcharge?
shades - 27/8/06 at 10:51 PM

Just noticed I have been charged VAT on the surcharge for recon brake calipers.

Obviously I get the surcharge back when I return the old brake calipers but should I also get the VAT back too?

Might not seem much but at £30 per caliper thats just over a fiver in VAT...

If you don't get the surcharge plus vat back, just whisper 'Custons and Excise'.......

It,s normal practise to charge the vat on surcharge. You will get it back when you return the old unit

This sounds correct, as they have provided a service thust it attracts VAT.
If you dont return the unit the VAT will people will want their money.

It should be returned when you claim your surcharge back when you return the old unit. As on return, no money has effectively changed hands, thus the VAT is now not payable.
