Spam email rant!
andyd - 2/10/06 at 11:40 AM

Some utter and total bar steward has taken it upon themselves to use my domain name as the reply address for their spam efforts!

I'm now getting lots of "undeliverable" or "unknown address" emails back with fake names to my mailbox.

I'm assuming that of the ones I'm getting back there are a higher percentage actually going to valid mailboxes and p***ing people off with them thinking it's all something to do with my domain.

Can't think that there is any way of stopping the wotal tanker that's decided to use my domain name in this way either.

infuriating isn't it...

what'll really get you mad is when your domain gets blocked by the ISP's because it's a major source of spam email and you won't be able to send email to anyone

Just thought I'd cheer you up a bit....

Cheers

Oh thanks Mark!

Words cannot describe what I think of these people who can't get on in life by legit means.... my shotgun is the answer but not the 30 yrs I'd get for the solution!

I totally agree with the views expressed, I have a number of complete To**ers who insist on trying to purvey their wares - anything from furniture to porn - on my website via the pages of my guestbook, a lot of it gets deleted automatically but there's still loads gets thro' I shall probably have to close the guestbook (which has been an interesting & genuine source of peoples opinions of my car) as it's becoming a full time job to remove the dross

You have my sympathy

Why can these people not just get a life & stop trashing everyone elses

Andy, you're not the only one - I'm getting the same at the moment!

Yep,

I've had the same going on with my domain for about six months or more now. It seems to go in bursts - I've just had one over the last week or so with about 30+ bounces/day which is heaps lower than the HUNDREDS I was getting in the first round

If all mail forwarders supported protocols like Sender Policy Framework (linky) the problem could be greatly reduced. It's possible that some of the reduction I've seen is due to setting up SPF records at my domain manager.

One thing I haven't done yet but really should is put a brief explanation on my home page that I'm not sending spam and there's nothing I can do to stop it

Yep, Ive been hit with this 1 as well, I changed my password to see if it helped, and it has to a point, I only get 1 or 2 a day now, not the 30 or 40 I was getting ??
