just curious.
on my Dads freelander, there are 2 pipes on the pipe between the airbox and the plenum......what are they for...any ideas.

Absolutely no idea.

They look like resonater pipes but why theyr in that pipe and not the side of the airbox i dont know.

I think one thing that these sort of things do is stabalize air in the plenum. They may help with induction roar aswell

As its a free lander, there may be a poss that a different and larger air filter can be used for desert and hotter countrys, and they may just use a common connection pipe for all models.

Its only a guess.

There to stop engine hunting when the throttle is closed quickly. (air charge bounce)

Or there not fitted for any other reason other than to keep you up all night thinking about what there for!!!!!!!!!!

Loads of Jap stuff has pipes like those, I assume they are to cancel some resonance from the intake but I dunno really.

Helmholtz resonators to remove/attenuate certain frequencies from the induction noise. Virtualy all production cars have them these days in order to pass noise regs.

They are for keeping the bolts in when you do the head gasket.
