Hoover AAA160 washing m/c switches on, welcome message appears on screen, 6kg load and Speed wash lights come on and then thats it. Wont do anything else! What's the diagnosis?

I was fine with our previous washing machine. Electro-mechanical easy to fault find and in best Locost tradition I kept the thing going by building a good one from two not so good ones. Then we got one of these wonderful computerised ones. I’m going to be sooooooooooo pi$$ed of if we cough up £89 + vat or whatever the Hoover call out charge is theses days (never yet called an engineer out to any domestic appliance in 22 years so Ive no idea) to have them perform some 2 min reset routine.

Is there a drain filter on this, posssibly blocked with hairgrip or similar?
A common fault generally is that the machine thinks it still has water in so doesnt start filling.
Any other clues?

Worked fine the last time it was used. It doesnt get as far as registering or initiating any of the programmes. Checked the drain/filter, no problems there.

have you tried giveing the door a bit of an extra push, in case its got a fancy double interlock, on you obviously posh(welcome message ) machine?

We had a problem with our one checked the filter that was fine i then removed the rubber pipe to the drum that had a ball valve type of thing in it and it was blocked by a sock, One of hers i might add
