I would REALLY love to have a drive in that kart - on a track with REALLY wide run-offs (otherwise I'd kill myself, very rapidly....)

ned - 10/6/03 at 11:17 AM

i know someone made a kart with a 350 cc yamaha rd350 2 stroke bike engine, they called that one 'death trap' god knows what they'll call this. only problem would be finding some soft enough compound rubber i guess.... and someone with a death wish to drive/pilot it!

if my memory serves me right
a couple of years ago on top gear thay had somone who put a blade engine in a gocart and took it to north weld and took it down the main runway. they took it up to 130 at which point they backed off because it started to lose contact with the tarmac. Scary !!

ps have a look at some of these great fun

timf!
That looked just like Crosscarts.. Don't you have those in the UK?

Simon - 11/6/03 at 02:41 PM

I saw a couple of bike powered karts at Brighton Speed Trials about 10 years ago.

IIRC they were called Jedi (Knights?).

One had Yamaha RD350 - very quick - other had RD500 V4. Didn't work:-(

Jedi.....

wasn't that the name of a single seater (think i've heard of them in hill climbing circles...)

the rd350 has been done more recently as i said, i think it did a standing quarter in 10 flat, though it topped out 100m before the end due to short circuit gearing!!

Buggie racing with big bike motors is something I've been into for the past decade or so. We don't race those Edge Products "bush bashers" as advertised at Offroad Buggies, as they don't stand the torture, and the suspension leaves them handling like a wheelbarrow with a flat tyre.
