My niece's Clio (P reg 1.2) has lunched it's cambelt and I've bravely volunteered myself to replace it. Not holding out much hope TBH,
I'm assuming (rightly?) that these are an interference engine, so bent valves, etc, will be the likely result I think.
Only thing is I haven't attacked one of these before, so if there are any hints/tips/fiddles/downright bodges that I need to know about, then
I'm all ears..! Are the timing marks reasonably obvious?
TIA, Geoff.
not too bad to do,they are wet liners so dont turn engine with head off, have a look at the steel tube from back of the water pimp, they leak like a
sieve with rust holes, use new head bolts, bits n peices from euro or gsf
Might also be worth changing the cam pulley , its got the key cast into it and is prone to shearing after timing belt failure .
Ok, thanks for the tips guys. John, I'm gonna do it on Saturday, so if I make my first ever trip to Boxhill on Sunday, I can bend your ear with
any problems...!
Geoff.
ill be modeling my new furry russian hat,its impervious to outside noises
I'll just have to tempt our furry friend down from your bonce with a titbit from my bacon sarnie....
have to be a low cal jobbie.....so my doc just said
My pessimism was well founded, a cambelt change gave me a one cylinder Clio. Head now off, looks like at least 4 valves are bent, but no other major
damage, so off to the factors tomorrow with a shopping list.
Geoff.
