Take 2 . I have an old motorbike which I'm thinking of selling to fund the rest of the project. It has the original 6** CDH numberplate which I've always thought is about as valuable as the bike so I want to sell it separately. Ages ago I contacted one of the "reputable" transfer companies just to see what it's worth. They've now come back and have said they'll market it at the figure I've asked but they were a bit quick on accepting my figure. Question is a) how safe is it allowing them to sell it i.e. will they pay up once I've sent them the docs. and b) should I just put it on retention then lob it on flebay and see what happens? Obviously the more I get for it the better.
Cheers, Pewe

Any reason why you can't stick it on fleabay with a "for sale eleswhere so have the right to remove" clause, see how much u get and then if you don't get what u want, go back to the transfer company??

Unless rules have changed, the vehicle has to be taxed and mot'd to transfer plate, it was done eons ago to stop unscrupulous dealers selling numbers from vehicles that no longer existed etc

I've got an MGB [Iknow mo ones perfect!] reg TAM ***S one company said it was worth thousands & offered to sell it for me. I wouldn't pay nearly that for it so there must be a scam somewhere in there offer. Maybees they think after a time I'll let them buy it cheaply so they can sell it on.
Mot & tax info>
My Vehicle is not taxed and has no current MOT. May I transfer the registration from it to another vehicle or to retention?

An application will be considered if your last tax disc expired within six months of the date upon which the VRO receive your application to transfer. In this case you must have been the registered keeper at the time the tax expired, and the tax must have expired naturally without refund. You must also provide the MOT certificate that was valid at the time the vehicle was last taxed.

Thanks for that guys. I might just put it on fleabay and see what happens.
Paul you might be right - they didn't offer thousands but it was just the way they accepted my high'ish price without any hassle that makes me a tad wary. If I do go with them and it works OK I'll let you know who it is. Cheers, Pewe
