Apparently, your boss is not particularly imbued with the spirit of the Chritsmas season. I heard of a dirty trick suitable for this sort of
slight...something about spelling out something unspeakably nasty in gigantic letters on the person's lawn with Roundup, or some other
all-purpose weed killer. Lasts for a couple of years, I'm told! Every time they look out the window, they'll remember what a rotten
bastard they are...
better still sow mustard seeds... they are a bugger to remove

Sorry to hear it At least he told you AFTER the Christmas holidays though. If you'd known beforehand, you would probably have had a far worse
Christmas. Part company graciously and move on. Another door will open for you.

I wouldn't bother. I did when I got made redundant and always regretted it when I could've been down the job centre looking for more work. Not the same in your case obviously but it'll just drag and you'll get pi55ed off all day. Just ring in sick or summat. Should still get paid and you haven't left on bad terms. Like my last boss told my lads "if you wanna leave then fine, you'll just be replaced by someone else". Harsh but thats another reality of business I suppose. Good luck with the new job though.
There's quite a bit of work in engineering at the minute, experienced labour is in demand. I'm still going to be at Scunthorpe Steel Works,
but on a different project for a different company, I just went for a walk around the subcontractors cabins.

From what I remember from the 6 monthly rounds of redunancy at both engineering places I worked for, they are obliged when making you redundant to
give you every oportunity to get another job, i.e time off for interviews. If you say that you have a new job and need the 3 days to get things
ready/have other interviews then they pretty much can't say no and may well have to pay you for the time too.
Now and an extra few days extra paid holiday + moving into a better paid job, now that's revenge

All i can say is never burn your bridges. Its surprising how small the specialist engineering job market is and how often you come across people again
in the future. No matter how nice or how much of a barsteward your gaffer is he was probs just doing as he was told.
Fair play to you for taking the news on the chin and having the frame of mind to get something better.

Great to hear you’re fixed up so soon. joking aside I would work the last few days, it always amazes me how often I bump into and sometimes work again

I know what you all mean, I've worked for the lad that's laying me off twice before in the past and the company that I'm going to I have been subbed to in the past as well. I didn't like the underhand way that we found out though (there's two of us going), everybody else knew that we were on the way out after the works do (that we didn't go to as we were on nights), but we weren't told until a week later, while the knives were hanging out of our backs. Apparently my "abrasive attitude" doesn't help either, a problem that stems from my disgust at the cleanliness of the shared portacabin where we have to eat. How hard is it to clean up after ones had a sandwich and a pot of tea? Too difficult for some, I'd hate to see their houses.
Yeah working with some people can be something of a challenge...just have to grin an bare it sometimes. Worked in places I simply could not eat the
canteen just couldn't stomach it, my dog would have found it offencive. Amazingly when you go to their houses it's like another world, turns
out their missus is super cleanly so they let standards drop at work to compensate, big style!! lovely

I don't think that's an attitude, it's just good housekeeping. You didn't find the place in a tip so don't leave it like that and expect it to just tidy itself up. Really annoys me this issue and I've faced it before, I just think its reasonable and dare I say common sense, though that's not that common these days! Good on you for saying summat.
