Hi. I am at last getting my long waited double garage built an i have decided on a 'built in ' engine hoist.
This will consist of a Block and tackle suspended on a Girder trolley running on a RSJ.
The Girder trolley is adjustable from 64mm to 140mm in width.
The span of the Rsj will be 16ft.

The trolley and tackle are rated at 500kg

Question: Do I need the full 140mm wide RSJ or will a narrower one do? Cheers Chris

Ask at the steel stockist, something like a 7"x4" should do what you want, it's holding the upstairs of our house up.

I think Hellfire and at least one other person on here has a similar arrangement. Might want to see what they're using.

I would use a 203 x 133 x 25 Kg U/B(universal beam) RSJ are not readily available nowadays and a lot more expensive, any steel fabrication firm should have one in stock and cost about £60-£80 depending on how much they charge per tonne
the beam weighs 25 Kg per metre if you need to work the weight out ( 16Ft= 123 Kg approx)
