Cheap Ski Holidays
oliwb - 8/1/07 at 07:33 PM

Has anyone got any top tips (or perhaps own an appartment they want to rent) for ski holidays? We're looking to go in the easter holidays (SWMBO is a teacher so no other choice ;( ) to either:
La Plagne, The three valley's, or Val Dis eeeeeeerre. If anyone has some good tips I'd be most grateful. We were trying to steer clear of package deals as we don't like the transfer times (2am!) and I don't reckon they're a very good deal usually. Cheers for any tips. Oli.

Depends on the standard of skiing that your after when my daughters were learning we used to go to les Rousee in the Haute Jura just noth of Geneva. This is about the closest that you can get skiing to Dover alternatively Le Plaine or the three valleys offers a really good mix of runs. If you take the car and stay outside of the resort you can get some good bargains last year we paid 35€ a night for half board.

PS there is now a link between La Plaine and the 3 valleys so you can do both at once

I generally drive over as it is easier and cheaper.

If you want to do the Three Valleys (and who wouldn't!!) then La Tania usually has some cheap deals. It is easy to get to by car, has good parking as easy assess to the slopes. Two lifts gets you to the top of either the Courcheval or Meribel valleys.

I will be going at the end of Jan now the snow has arrived

Been with this lot 3 times, only stopped because we started going in big groups and it was cheaper to organise it myself.

They get over their by coach though, although if you fly they will pick you up from the airport, so if you book earlier enough its will only be about £50 more to fly.

Everything is included, travel, food, lift pass, insurance, not sure about hire as I have my own board so never needed it.

Nice chalets too, the one in La Tania is really cosy and new.

Have skied la plagne twice (2 yrs in a row) now....absolutely love it but wouldn't mind a change of scenery! Yeas we used the vanois express that links les arcs and la plagne but I don't think I'd ever stay in les arcs as most of their runs seem to be a bit pants! Equipment isn't really a problem as I've got my own gear but we can't drive out there. Unlike you lot it would take me 10-11 hours just to get to the eurotunnel never mind all the way down to the french alps! Oh well I guess I'll have to just keep looking....Oli.

Yeah and look on the web to see if the village has been wiped out in an avalanche in the past…well I would.
