Just a quickie for someone in the know (or who knows more than me!).

Got some plastering to do in the bathroom so hauled out a couple of bags of british gypsum/thistle plaster (one bag bonding coat and one of multifinish iirc) from the garage, use by date is mid '05 but they're still powder, not gone hard with damp or anything. will they still be usable? not too bothered about the finish as most will be tiled over in the bathroom anyway.

ps know it's not expensive stuff but seems silly to go buy more and dispose of old down dump if what i have will do the job.

Ned, this happens to me all the time and I always buy new as it's cheap enough and I'm not going to take the risk of doing the work ( I hate plastering anyway) only to see it fall off. It may be coincidence, but I always seem to find I get a better finish with fresh stuff.

From my experience of being a plumber a few moons ago they're not usable, and said to have "gone off". When you try to spread it on the walls it just clumps and won't really stick to it.

dont use it you will pay more in the long run

I would be suprised if you even get it mixed before it goes solid.
A fresh bag from somewhere that shifts loads of it is best.

I wouldnt bother with it. the older it is the faster the set, and once the date is past it becomes difficult to work.
