R1 vs. Hayabusa Vid
Donkeymatt - 15/1/07 at 10:05 PM

Don't know if anyone has seen this - scroll down and click on the hayabusa vs. R1 video. I was going to get an R1 block when I start my build, but this might have just changed my mind!!!!!
What do you think?!

If you've got the the extra 1.5 / 2 grand for the motor, go for it.
Steve.

You need to remember though that the R1 was never built for top speed, if it had the same fairing etc as the busa it would be a lot closer top end speed.

Back to their relative merits in a BEC, the busa is the ultimate engine IMHO, but as mentioned it is expensive. If you do the maths of power/weight for an R1 car which like for like will be 30kgs lighter than a busa, then there's not as big a difference as you'd think.

Ive driven a couple of busa BECs plus my own R1 BEC, and although there is a difference, its not a lot and the busa only really begins to show any significant advantage the other side of 100mph. Indeed there's a significantly bigger performance difference between my old blade engine and the R1 Ive now got installed, than there is between an R1 and the busa.

plus the fact that new r1s arent that far behind the busa in terms of power at leasy, and i heard a rumour about a cheap turbo kit for the R1.

I watched Chris at Llandow and his mate in his turbo busa westfield.

After seeing the lap times, I wouldn't bother with the busa

Do you mean that the old blade engine had better performance than the R1?

zxrlocost - 16/1/07 at 09:52 AM

No

blade engines are good but not as powerful as r1

r1 £ for £ is the best

hayabusa picks up better in the gears but thats not to say the r1 doesnt

looking at the two bikes racing isnt a comparison for the cars mate

Why not go the whole hog and fit a ZX14
Just have to find one first!!!! I expect most people who crash their ZX14s don't leave much to be salvaged (them or the bike ).

Shouldn't say this but....

Been in an R1 bec and there's not much in it between it and mine.

Except the price tag.

Nope, what I meant to say is that if upgrading from blade to R1 to busa, the performance jump from upgrading from the blade to the R1 is bigger than jumping from an R1 to a busa, ie, relative performance:

blade.........................R1.......busa

Hehe, to be fair you never really get the benefit of big power at Llandow though, being such a short circuit.

Do you remember any lap times out of interest?
