Sorry lads nothing to do with cars!
We've got a Saniflo fitted and it sounds like it is blocked, water seems to go away but I can hear the motor struggling.
Is it tricky to open up and take a look...
?
It is fitted at the top of the house so hopefully if I empty the loo there should not be any water above to flood out (yer right!)..
Anyone out there know...thanks in advance, one sorted I promise to go back to talking about cars.
I suspect something has got stuck in it...I'll present whatever it is back to the owner.

Ive stripped them more than once, its not a nice job sister in law at the time, couldn't get her head round the fact that saniflos don't
like cotton buds, sanitary towels etc. floods were a regular occurence, to the point i refused to go anymore. isolate the fused spur, couple of screws
either end and the lid comes off, theres a cage/filter type affair round the blades, clean out any offending solids, make sure the ball thingy is free
and put back together.
fairly straightforward job, if a tad unpleasant. surgical gloves are a good idea, and a peg for your nose
If you don't fancy it, phone saniflo,
they have service agents. although i hate to think what they charge. Not enough IMO
heard a comment that they're not legal in europe!

Was gonna ask what one was.... but decided not to be a newbie and actually do a search!
Now I know I'm given to another question:
Why?
I helped put in a toilet/sink at home recently and I know it definately goes straight from the toilet to the 4" waste pipe and then AFAIK to the
sewer.
Without wishing to be indelicate, is it for people with small waste pipes? Or if you have a septic tank?
(or just those who diet is a little lacking in fibre! 
)

A saniflow in the top of the house? sounds a bit of a suspect instalation to me.
There usually used in basements etc where the waste cannot fall naturally to a drain, so it has to be pumped upwards until it can do so.
Unles they've just done it so they can get away with small bore pipework somewhere.

My parents used to have one at the top of the house - we called it the "Turdchopper". I managed to avoid using it for large motions () - I
didn't like to think of what would happen if it got blocked...

Sometimes the loo is put where it's impossible to run a proper pipe so they use them to get a small bore pipe.
Bit of a 'self tapper' of an idea IMO so I'd not have one. Good luck with the stripdown, I'd wear a dust mask and goggles myself,
the thought of getting splashed in the face is just too uuuurgh.

not mensual.. I have one because its small bore pipe and it has to travel wuite a way to get to the waste down pipe.

Got the unit empty, took it outside and washed out with a hose pipe. Removed a small "mouse like" obstruction, white body and stringy
tail...
Put back together and fitted back in and tried it, motor just hums...called local Saniflo rep and he diagnosed the fault to a blown capacitor, he
said change that and the level switch. He put the parts in the post and said to send a cheque when they turn up, good to see people showing a little
trust.
Now official Saniflo expert on the forum. Thanks for all the help, might even convert it to bike engine .
Dont be too afraid of them. Very easy to open up. Yes - take safety precautions. Mine was only occasionally used. Opened it up and surprisingly clean
inside.
Its basically a food blender. There is a plastic cage inside and a blade. Mine made an awful noise. All it was was a lump of cotton wool attached to
the end of the blade and made a fast ratchet noise against the cage. Dead easy to fix.
