there i got being immature again, i realy should stop that lol
matt
This is the symbol from the met office for this morning for where i live which is supposed to represent sleet/shower
Idiots!
got 100m from my house before i hit another car (ungritted road, inch or two of snow) at a downhill approach to a (residential) crossroads
the other car just bounced off and slid down the road
and that was at <10mph
That was after I had to reverse back down the road as my traction control wouldn't let me turn out my driveway and go up the hill!
At least I'm at work
and tesco's claim line opens in 5mins which will be fun..
Ned.

Bugger, today of all days. I have to drive to Dartford from West Berkshire this morning, not looking forward to that.

Tut tut excuses excuses...
Whats the immortal quote in this case.
quote:
Drivers should be "driving to the road conditions" and that way accidents wont occur

Mind you, you English cant help it I suppose, you don't get enough snow to gain the required skill & experience for winter driving.....![]()
) but I was doing less than 10mph
and 50yds or so when I saw the headlights (before i even saw the car) was when I started attempting to stop, abs useless, engine braking no better not
a lot else i could could, pavement and a bank on either side so nowhere to ditch it, swerve or handbrake out of the way to. In hindsight even at
<10mph I was driving too fast for the road conditions, maybe an inherent problem of living on a hill but hey ho. I remember people coping when we used to have 2 foot of snow, we get an inch or two and no one can handle it.

you don't get enough snow to gain the required skill & experience for winter driving...
Snow in England, even as close as Gosport............and not a flake in the Republic of Wight.
The youngsters are disappointed,......I'm not!
Roll on summer!
Cheers,
Syd.
Countries that regularly get snow learn to cope with it - snow tyres, chains, whatever - but our stuff is so random that it always catches us out.

Gotta say that I was expecting it!
But....... Sunday night/Monday....... so even then I was 48 hours late......
I hate cold and snow........roll on the summer
About 1" (2.50 cms) of snow here in slushy KT12. To be honest it isn't the snow itself I dislike, its when it freezes (the slush) I hate.
Andy-mate, you follow the wrong weather station...

Snow
Though I do have to try and get to Watford from gatwick to collect an engine :s
Pez
No snow up here in Newcastle
Though there were a few showers last night, but it obviously didn't settle.

Unlucky Ned.
Damage bad?
Hope Tescos helpful.
Cheers,
James
i was considering getting up early and going out in the little car for my very own rally sweden. As it happens my road is far too abrasive, it takes a lot of snow or ice to let the car slide properly.
Damage is not too bad but the other party will be claiming off me so I will have to pay my excess so might aswell get mine properly sorted. Car is
booked into repairers already for assessment, only real bummer is the excess which stings a little
Ned.
ps helps my decision about changing it for an audi quattro though

or a sled!!
One of my engineers got a call from his insurers on Monday.
A few weeks ago he stopped at some lights in his VW Polo, forgot to put his handbrake on, took his foot off the brake and rolled into the car in front
of him - without even noticing he was moving.
There was no damage whatsoever, didn't even crack a number plate or scratch either bumper, but she took his number anyway and is now claiming for
whiplash, time off work and the 'repair bill' for her Punto is over £2k!!
scum
at work (no snow anywhere)
at home (15mins drive away)
just got the sun coming up
yeah ok i know its not a locost ......
Humbug... Snow at last, so I took today off and its all gone, and nothing to go play in with the Land Rover... Bahhh..
I agree with Calvinx and Ned... Its all down to poor drivers. Its commonsense to slow down and make a bigger gap.
Still if everyone drove a proper Landy then the odd shunt at low speed would save millions for the insurers.
Hell... Whats another scratch or dent matter to a 22 year old landy
IMHO 22 year old Landrovers are still "Modern ones"
Have fun and enjoy what little snow there is.. Soon be summer and Locost time
PS... Took the Viento out for a run last Sunday.. nice... but fairly cold.

Snowing here agin at the moment, not much though.
My dad used to go out gritting for West Sussex County Council and although he's now a manager he's recently started gritting in the evenings
again as they are short of drivers and he quite enjoys it.
When he used to go out 25/30 years ago though, he said virtually every winter they had to fit a snowblower to the front of a gritter to clear 6ft+
snowdrifts that had gathered in the local lanes at least once, but that hasnt been used for best part of 20 years!
