I have to say this has always been my dream, to run a turbine car on the road. I'm sooooo jealous

Not sure about the 5 min warm up before you pull away though, might cause problems at the petrol station.

I could live with that and the fuel bill, apparently twice that of a comparable hp conventional engine.

There must be loads of old small turbines that are out of hours for airworthiness but quite usable for a car (something with about 200shaft hp). Damned if I know where to get hold of them though...so annoying.

Rover, remember them? were looking at turbine cars back in the 50s; shelved the idea due to poor fuel consumption

Marcus - 30/1/07 at 09:11 AM

Yup, the P6 Rover was designed for a turbine - shame really, would have been interesting!

yeah know that car well, quite good really and very simple. Fuel was aways going to be an issue but they run even better on gas and with that at 1/2 the price of petrol would make up for the low mpg. Running them on gas also is safer for starting as liquid fuels can cause a runaway if a pool is left in the engine.
