Wifey's tintop - MOT and service
nick205 - 2/2/07 at 12:05 PM

Whoops!

Wife got a service reminder from Peugeot for her 306 and as usual asks me to sort it out.

So off I go to check when it eas last serviced - turns out it was last done in August 2005 (only does 6k per year, so no real problem).

While I was at it I thought I'd check the MoT - ran out August 2006

She really should pay more attention. Guess who's now got to sort out a servic, 2 new tyres and and MoT

I was hoping to spend the money on a shiney new crash helemt too

theres a joke in there somewhere about shiny helmets, i wont be the one to make it though

As if its not bad enough maintaining one car, never mind swmbos!

Do you really require a garage [at say £20 a hour] to carry out the service? Have a look at the log book it'll probably say what has to carried out.

Change oil & filter.
Change spark plugs.
Change air filter.
Check all collent, brake fluid levels.
Grease all hinges.
Check air pressure in tyres.
Etc.Etc. Etc.

All achievable by any ameteur grease monkey at the quarter of the price.
With the cash saved you could treat your car to some very good quality engine oil which would not be provided by the servicer

Where the hell do you live ? It's around £70ph at a main dealer and £30-35ph at a back street garage around here.
I can tell it's a while since you paid to have owt done on yer car

Booked into local Pug dealer for service @ £59 and MoT @ £25. Reminder letter from the dealer included a discount voucher for £20 off the service and half price MoT, which can't be bad.

I could do the work myself and have done on previous cars, but with my SVA approaching and a long list of other chores to get done as well I'd rather pay someone else to do it. It also gets the service book stamped by Pug which helps when it's time to flog the car.

Yup Unclefista has sussed me out. I live in Scotland after all & I'm tighter than Jade Goodies straight jacket!

You do seem to be getting a good deal there; Nick205.

Unfortunately for you you're in the south. We're off to buy 'er indoors a helmet from Rufforth autojumble tomorrow which should be less than £30 for an ACU gold Nitro fibreglass unit! Smashing!

p.s. I can ridicule the south as I lived in Guildford and the Hackney for several years!

p.p.s. Sorry, just back from the pub....
