ReMan - 7/2/07 at 11:31 PM

Is it actually snowing anywhere yet?
Supposed to be driving from home (Nr Hinckley) to Reigate (Nr Gatwick) in the morning. Still starry sky here at the moment no snow clouds yet

phoenix70 - 7/2/07 at 11:33 PM

Yup Snowing where I am, and has been for the last couple of hours

rjs - 7/2/07 at 11:33 PM

just about to leave for work & its nt snowing here in norfolk , freezing hard but nt snowing.

ReMan - 7/2/07 at 11:37 PM

A bit of severe weather warning paranoia these days I think. Weather men have to over tell it now for fear of them getting caught out again.
But I do like snow, just want to know whennto set the alarm for! coz after last weks snow panic , I'm not going near tye M25 if theres snow

stevec - 7/2/07 at 11:40 PM

None in Coventry yet.

scutter - 7/2/07 at 11:41 PM

I would say as of 23:00 it was/is snowing in Devon and Cornwall.

Met office link

May not hit London until 06:00ish

ATB Dan.

MikeR - 7/2/07 at 11:47 PM

Nuneaton is covered in the stuff - i'm not going out but its nearly up to my alloys so i'm guessing 3"

ch1ll1 - 8/2/07 at 08:01 AM

started in brightlingsea (essex) @ 5.30 this morning

David Jenkins - 8/2/07 at 08:03 AM

Generous sprinkling in South Suffolk at the moment...
...make the most of it, 'cos there's supposed to be milder wet stuff following shortly behind.

farmer.palmer - 8/2/07 at 08:15 AM

Here at Moreton in Marsh Glos/Warks/Oxon borders 4-5 inches of snow... ;-)

woo hooooooooo!

oliwb - 8/2/07 at 08:16 AM

The smallest amount of snow I've ever seen up here! Still enough to abandoned the fiesta in the sloped driveway and take the series 3 landrover out! Hope we get some more so Idon't have to go to work! Oli.

bimbleuk - 8/2/07 at 08:20 AM

Aboardman - 8/2/07 at 08:52 AM

Peteff - 8/2/07 at 09:00 AM

It's like a Christmas card outside, I'm just going to fetch the milk in I may be gone some time.

macnab - 8/2/07 at 09:07 AM

James - 8/2/07 at 09:19 AM

HAve fun!

Cheers,
James

trogdor - 8/2/07 at 09:22 AM

man it sucks to live in southampton! have not had a sniff of snow here at all, even with the last lot of snow.

donut - 8/2/07 at 09:22 AM

I have 3" here in Warlingham, Surrey

Here is my road at 9.00am

MikeR - 8/2/07 at 09:30 AM

Got an inch or so in Nuneaton now and the same at work in north cov (just by j2 M6)

which means despite travelling in at 20 -30 mph i couldn't justify staying at home

Pezza - 8/2/07 at 09:39 AM

Couple of inches here in crawley, stopped now but hoping for more

David Jenkins - 8/2/07 at 09:49 AM

It's just wet slushy stuff here...

Johnmor - 8/2/07 at 09:56 AM

Nice to see that those south of the border are enjoying the seasonal weather.

I have a few inches of snow and it -10c last night.

I have been watching the news and I hate to say this but you would think the sky has fallen, the whole of the country is in turmoil with news reporters discussing "blizzard conditions" as a few flakes of snow gently settle onto a wooly hat they all seem to wear.

I know this is a rare occurance that far south but please, please keep it in perspective.

The tv was telling people to take torches clothes, food , a spade and go knows what all else as they drove the 400 yards to the shop in 2" of slush.

I await further snow fall with glee.

woodster - 8/2/07 at 10:11 AM

No snow in Bolton.......... its not classed as winter here until the first snowflake lands on the mosque roof

DarrenW - 8/2/07 at 10:34 AM

Started to snow in South Durham area about 9am today. Anything less than 2 feet shouldnt affect us Northerners. I bet the Cockneys south of leeds will be panic buying now

mind you i have a 3 series tourer so anything more than 50 microns should render it useless (again!)

donut - 8/2/07 at 10:52 AM

When i was a kid we used to get a good 8 - 14" a couple times a year and it would last a week and we got on with life. These days if you see 1 snow flake the whole country goes into turmoil!

Pezza - 8/2/07 at 10:55 AM

I love the snow, even got in a few lairy slides in my shitty kangoo van (only time it'll go sideways)

David Jenkins - 8/2/07 at 10:57 AM

If you read the BBC website (LINKY) you'd think that the Ice Age had started. "Shock Horror! 4 inches of snow has fallen! We're all doomed!".

Good grief...

wheezy - 8/2/07 at 11:00 AM

Its been snowing here for the last 3 months.
With the temperature down to -30 they have even closed the Ski slopes

Dave

macnab - 8/2/07 at 11:59 AM

"It is expected that the lateness and loss of work hours caused by transport disruptions will cost the British economy up to £400 million."

all this with just 3in of snow!!

iank - 8/2/07 at 12:16 PM

Wasn't snowing in Kings Lynn when I set out this morning, but was by the time the train got to Downham Mkt. About a half inch in North Cambridge.

Wish me luck, I'm on bus+train back to Newcastle tonight No doubt it will completely fail to alter the atire of the young ladies at Newcastle central station when I arrive.

My companies vpn has maxed out with all the 'Lahndahnas' working from home, so it must be really bad down there

<ol'git> I remember when they had to send food to farmers using helicopters, proper 6ft snowmen, schools shut for a week or two. Yet now one day of frankly moderate snow shuts the country down! </ol'git>

David Jenkins - 8/2/07 at 12:22 PM

A month or so ago some of the mid-west states in the USA declared a state of emergency - trees and power lines brought down by the weight of snow, cattle dying of the cold, people dying for various reasons - THAT'S bad weather, not the sprinkle we've had today.

twybrow - 8/2/07 at 12:40 PM

about 4" this morning in Evesham - still snowing at midday! My Vectra estate turned into a drift machine (no pun intended!) - loving it. Got a bit hairy when a lorry started sliding towards me on my way to work...!

greggors84 - 8/2/07 at 01:17 PM

"A spokesman for the Local Government Association said the primary concern was the safety of the children.

"If parents feel they don't want to compromise that by getting into the car or by walking on ice, that's fine," he said."

But I bet they let them go a play in the snow!

The school over the road is closed and all the local kids are in the park gang snow balling people. We gave it our best effort to fight back but there was about 50 of them!

The whole of the Oxford seems to be in southpark, from people snowboarding and building ramps, to people going down the hill on car bonnets!

Love it!

oily85 - 8/2/07 at 01:38 PM

I wish I was back at Oxford now, it's snowing here, just north-east of King's Lynn, been snowing since about 10ish, but none of it's settled. I thought I was going to be able to overtake everyone on the way home in my landy.

Hmm, Geordie girls idea of "wrapping up warm".

I remember queuing to get into a bar one New Years Eve on the Quayside, 4" of slush on the floor, almost complete white out blizzard, and the girl in front of me was wearing a tiny slip dress, high heels and nothing else. Her toes were sticking out the front of her shoes into snow!

Happy days.

Mike

ReMan - 8/2/07 at 02:02 PM

Started at about 5.30 this morning, probably 2" by 8.00 in Hinckley, too much for a 140 mile trip to the big smoke though. Bad enough doing the 10 miles up to Coalville today with some scared drivers doing 10mph Stay at home I say!!!

minordelay - 8/2/07 at 02:28 PM

Rode into work today on my MTB, "Wolverhampton to Birmingham". Looking forward to riding back home past all the stationary cars later

DIY Si - 8/2/07 at 06:39 PM

5" or so here near Banbury. Spent a good afternoon sledging and generally prating about. No major hassle really, and it makes driving the works van exciting! Just leave the handbrake on a few notches and away you go!
