Daytona 500
greggors84 - 19/2/07 at 04:17 PM

Anyone see the Daytona 500 last night? The cars in 1st and 2nd were 0.02 seconds apart and the rest crashed themselves over the line. One guy went over the line on his roof and on fire!

Yep a most excellent race!

I felt so sorry for Mark Martin (01), the one race to elude him, to be beaten by such short margin, but he said that he had the time of his life, so a good result IMHO

Montoya was soooo lucky to finish as high as he did, after running at the back for most of the race, although, I still can't quite work out the 'finish' system, after all both Montoya and Jeff Gordon were amongst the last lap carnage, and they still finished ahead of the mid-pack. I suppose it depends exactly when the yellow flag was raised.

Very miffed that NASN didn't let their subscribers know that they hadn't secured the Nextel Cup Series, but hats off to Channel 5 for showing the full race albeit slightly delayed.....

Daytona is an awesome track, you have to see it (if you haven't yet) to appreciate the steep angles of the banking.......and the speeds they maintain....

I watched some of it.... then fell asleep it was so boring!

Give me Formula 1 (even with Schuey winning every race) any day!

Cheers,
James

Horses for courses I suppose! It would be a rum world if we all liked/disliked the same thing.....

I think it helps to understand the concept of NASCAR racing, and helps even more if you have been to a track (NASCAR).
I can understand if you tune in to the TV and see cars going around an oval, it would seem boring if you do not understand it.

I personally find F1, especially the latter years, very boring, the cars are driven by computer, with the driver just having to point the car and go. There is far too much technology in F1 these days for my personal taste..... and seems to be race that is decided on pit stop strategies.

I prefer to watch racing without in-car and pit side technology, where racing depends on driver talent..... but then I am a techno dinosaur anyway!

Each to his/her own, but truthfully, I find all types of motor sport exciting in its diversity..
