Zetec Engine
motorcrossrider - 25/2/07 at 10:03 PM

Iv finally bolted my Zetec engine into my chassis. Im now concerned about the height of the engine. It looks likes i may have some trouble with clearance getting the bonnet over the top. I was wondering if anybody has any pics or measurments of the engine mounts they have used as i think i may have to cut a section out of mine and weld them back together in order to lower the overall height of the engine.
Any help would be great
Neil

I don't have any pictures but I made my mountings to suit with the gearbox rear mounting bolted up I wanted the engine very close to level but with sufficient ground clearance.

I ended up with my shortened sump less than 1inch below the chassis and it clears the bonnet with no problems.

Mine is not a book chassis though so the dimensions may be different!!

Do you have a zetec with the air intake that goes over the top of the engine

I dont think you will ever make it fit in a locost with the std intake system... not without a hole in the bonnet.

When i ordered the body work from GTS i ordered the bonnet that is taller for the Zetec engine. How would you modify the intake system so it will fit?

Would be a hard job modifying intake so it would fit under bonnet..have a look here....link,,

I'm looking at getting one of the Griffin intakes for my Focus.
Its just under £180 inc VAT which is a pretty good deal, removes all the limitations/restrictions of the filter/inlet trunking. Only issue which worries me is that the inlet length will be so short it'll move the power right up the rev range

Could the power not be re mapped to cut the power in earlier?

Not really.
The standard inlet length (on a blacktop with plastic inlet) is 18", the Griffin inlet is around 4-12" depending on if its cylinder 1 or 4. Thats a lot of difference.

That said, I'm going purely on what I've read, which said going to a 12" inlet would move the power band up about 1.5K from where it is currently. So you'd rather than being at 5.5K it'll be at 7K, right on the rev limit I'm sure its not as black/white as that and probably fine for a light "7", but for my Focus its a bit high.

Still going to get one sometime though, just to see.

Nope.. I have GSXR throttle bodies. I guess the extra height of your inlet could be a problem so it looks like either a fabrication job or ebay is needed. Unless you want a hole in the bonnet.

I am sure my 2.0 inlet didn't go over the top so perhaps you need to source one of another model.
