ned - 10/7/03 at 02:43 PM

I have 980hp, 14 litres capacity, cost £25k and redline at 2200rpm.

Any guesses?

Scotty - 10/7/03 at 02:47 PM

errrrrrrrrrrrr...
is it one of those big digger things ?

ned - 10/7/03 at 02:50 PM

nope. keep guessing.

stephen_gusterson - 10/7/03 at 02:54 PM

The rev limit looks a tad low for a truck or a bus.........

Is it one of those small commuter trains?

What about a straight 12 pushing out over 100000hp at 101.5rpm. Thats overspeed testing aswell!

I cant take the credit - it was Mr Google!

I thought trucks went to about 2500 - 3000k revs - but its been ages since I drove one, and that was only an 8 tonner to germany and back. Suprising the respect you get from other road users!

Who is the saddest?

a) Ned, for posting the thread

b) Steve, for researching the answer

c) Me, for joining in...

d) Dead heat

Only joking guys, as you may have guessed...

ned - 10/7/03 at 03:27 PM

this info was from banter in the pits at thruxton a couple of weeks ago. they blew one up! expensive weekend. the hole was about a foot by a foot and a half!

the engines are modded and moved in the tractor unit to be lower and further back for centre of gravity.

they limit them to 100mph round thruxton for safety reasons

Ned.

stephen_gusterson - 10/7/03 at 03:30 PM

Ohh, that AlanB, hes such a card!

Google answers a lot of stuff that people wouldnt need to ask on here if a simple search is done....

About truck racers - I have always wondered how barriers for 600 kilo cars at tracks are meant to stop 10 tonne trucks.....

the simple answer is i don't think they do, hence the speed restriction!!

Ned.

bob - 10/7/03 at 06:34 PM

they also marinise those big diesel engines and throw them in poer boats, the results are quiet remarkable.

They managed to beat the petrol engine lambo V12 tractor thingy's(hell of a racket)

bob - 10/7/03 at 06:36 PM

Is marinise the right word, maybe not but i think you got the idea.

Bet jamie oliver is confused though.

Fatboy Dave - 10/7/03 at 07:51 PM

No, that'd be marinade, when they get a trifle warm

Mark Allanson - 10/7/03 at 08:02 PM

You can see them in Plymouth 26th July, I'm going, anyone else going?

bob - 10/7/03 at 09:34 PM

Did it in the 80's and it cost me more than i would like to mention or admit.

I bet there's no brits with big boats anymore,is Steve Curtis still doing it?

ned - 11/7/03 at 09:14 AM
