The defense budget is cut to the bone but better to spend what little money is given to the MOD on front line forces.

Fair point. But its things like the Red Arrows/White Helmets/Royal Art'y Show/Edingbough Tatoo etc etc that bring new blood into the forces and present them in a good public light.

I suspect a lot of people would prefer it if the entire MOD budget was spent on stuff like the Red Arrows rather than paying soliders to risk their lives abroad just because Blair is Dubya's Shower-room gimpbitch....

with the amount of money tax council tax VAT road tax petrol tax this money takes there should be no cost cutting

James - 27/2/07 at 07:29 PM

I was always under the impression that they were self funding.

We sold a lot of Hawk Trainers and probably other British Arms exports on the back of the Red Arrows- the tax on a few hundred millions worth of Hawks to Saudi must pay for the use of them mustn't it?

Or is the plan to replace them with a more modern aircraft we can sell instead? Ie. still Red Arrows, but done with another plane?

Cheers,
James

This may be the case. But how often does ANY British goverment left or right of the line spend/reinvest money made from a given souce.I give the road tax and petrol tax as a case in point. Its near to all our hearts.
If money collected was managed correctly,we would live in a far better place.I speak as a currently serving Civil Servent,(Runs for cover)

Now i should not be saying this what with who pays my limited wages with no pay rise for 2 years but instead of Ploughshear 2000 what about turning nuclear subs into locost chassis?
Oh and keep the Red Arrows supream skill on my last trip past Scampton 2 arrows buzzed the airfield just above the fence line wing to wing........... upside down Awsome.

My god i'm in complete agreement with a civil servant
Joking aside i think this country needs to remember that its things like this that make us proud to be british, who hasn't seen them and come away feeling good, if they were russian you'd think yeh they were o.k. but because there ours it makes you proud.
The way were going we'll have sod all left exept the telly in the corner of the front room and work.
Mind you if the goverment have there way none of us will be able to afford to go and watch them anyway.
Oh dear thats my rant over
