I've just saved £100
John Bonnett - 27/2/07 at 08:34 PM

For a long time I've been dreading taking our Clio to the local Renault dealer for its 18000 mile service being put off by their arrogant and offhand attitude as well as their inflated labour rates. Instead, I booked the car into a Renault dealer in France. It really was a pleasure. It was booked in for a certain time and ready on time and their labour rate, 35 Euros an hour. Okay, we spent the £100 we saved but on good food and nice wine. Can't wait for when the next service is due!

Nice 1 if more people did the same maybe our garages would try a bit harder to provide better service

Unfortunately I'm at the wrong end of the country to make use of french garages, I envy you the food and drink more than the good servicing though

Cheers

If I were honest I'd have to admit that the service was just the excuse to get over there.

You can use any garage you like for servicing as long as they use approved Renault or whatever parts can't you?

At our end of the country ecosse, we get the opportunity to have our cars serviced in Amsterdam - roll on roll off from newcastle!

Oh the possibilities........

I saved £100+vat at the weekend.

My vw tdi blew it's intercooler hose (again)! Last time I wasn't sure what it was and vw charged me 1 hours inspection to fix it .

I have now removed the dodgy sprung hose clip and fitted a jubilee clip that i found in the garage still attached to a mk2 astra gte airbox

jobs a good-un

Well done mate. As an aside a workmate asked me today to recommend a local garage to service his wifes toyota. Biggest problem was really that I couldn't???????????? .

We've got the rosyth to zeebruge ferry here as well, but the cost and length of the crossing ends any thoughts of using it for a quick trip ac ross the channel

Quite a few years ago I had a Citroen BX that needed the suspension spheres replaced. My local place quoted some outrageous price, so I drove all the way to Sawtry (~200 mile round trip from where I live) to a Citroen specialist who charged me a quarter of the price. Even including the petrol, I reckon I saved well over £100.

There are some serious rip-off merchants around...
