A work colleague of mine is looking for a cheap set of 15" wheels that he can use on his 7 for Hillclimbs and Sprints. I very nearly pointed him
in the direction of this forum and almost gave him the web address but then I remembered what car he owned.......... a Caterham.
In a flash, it dawned on me what would greet him on the homepage if he ever ventured onto locostbuilders (yes, that longest running and most viewed
thread) and I must admit, I would have felt ashamed had I directed him here.
That thread has got to go........
Phil
Thanks Phil,
I've been saying this for some time now.
It serves no useful purpose and can only alienate visitors to the site - even if they don't own a Caterham it gives the wrong impression.
I like being on here and contributing, but that thread is just embarrassing. I don't care if it's true - it just doesn't need to be
there.
Please can it be deleted? ChrisW are you reading this?
Mark
I agree.
I don't think it represents most people's point of view.
Stu
you have a valid point Phil. Its on the longest running page due to being 41 pages in length, and most viewed for obvious reasons.
Now, chrisw wont remove it, and locodude is hiding on a ssangyon forum at last siting.
So, i would propose all users who want the thread gone, to go through and delete all their posts on the subject, to try to reduce it to under 19 pages
(ie under the 5th place length) and to also regularily view the other threads in most viewed to get them up the table.
If everyone who agrees that the thread needs to go does this, im sure we can remove it within a few weeks.

right, come on guys. This is people power! Ive just knocked 2 pages off it by deleting all my posts on it, at great personal loss (im probably back
below 10k posts now
)
The vast number of posts on there are by regulars, not random visitors, so if just a few people delete posts, we'll knock it off the top list.
I'll start a 3 word story again to fill the other list a little, that always works.
Well done that man
Bah, apparently longest running doesn't mean what I thought it did. Oh well.
i believe if chrisg, david jenkins, alan b etc remove their posts, it will work. However, im sure some people dont want it removing, so we will have
to see who goes along with it.
If you remove your posts, add your name to this thread so we know would you?

6 posts deleted by me
Phil
Mine have gone (only a couple towards the end, but every little helps).
[Edited on 27/2/07 by Confused but excited.]
I have removed my 3 posts on that thread (they were all totally off topic anyway)
I scanned through the postings and recon if someone on a crusade can get the following users to remove their posts then it will be long gone. Not all
of the biggest posting members on that thread are still active but i recon these are and should be enough:
chrisg
alanb
bob
james
jon ison
robinbastd
jollygreengiant
conrodkid
david jenkins
stu16v
peteff
phelspa
deckman001
well folks, by my calculations, we have a problem. The MCOB thread has been viewed nearly 60k times. Number 5 on the most viewed list is the vortx
thread, viewed 28k times. So we need to distribute approx 100k views between the 4 threads
ive done about 100 so far, all on the electrolysis
thread, so this may take a while.

Two posts by me deleted. It's not much, but if it makes a difference in the long run....
I'd need to think about it.
Should we apologise for having a better attitude to helping people than the "cheque book seven" owners?
Having said that I agree that it's not helping the site, and not really the prevailing attitude here either.
I'm having a real problem with this because two things I despise are on opposite sides of the argument.
I can't stand elitism or censorship.
Leave it with me
Cheers
Chris
not at all nuts ned (yours that is, not mine!), i'll give it a few days and u2u people on that list to ask if they fancy helping!
As for the viewing thing, well, theres no choice really. If chris wont do it then someone needs to.
Does anyone know how to write a program that can automatically ping the pages to add hits?
I have a £500k tool at work that we use for monitoring e-commerce systems that *could* be used to perform such an action. we can record a script (like
recording a macro in word) to load a webpage and check a string of text eg thread title or something. Could run it from multiple locations on a very
frequent timescale. You'd best ask shortie (my boss) if we're allowed to do it
this is getting silly just thinking about it. we could run it every 1 minute on 3 different machines 24x7 and we'd get approx 30k hits in 7 days
so would still take quite some time. That's assuming the extreme frequency doesn't cause problems with our normal IT environment.

lol
self-moderation shouldn't be this hard.
Ned you also need to consider the load on the locostbuilders server (and also the fact your setting a precident)
Perhaps we should let democracy take its course - start a poll on should we delete the thread? leave it a week and let the majority rule.
How about a Locostbuilders petition to Chris W? They seem to be all the rage at the moment.
Phil
lol, sod chris, lets petition the PM
there already was a poll, it was 66% delete 33% keep.
Wouldn't the entire thread vanish if the starter, locodude , deleted his posts? I am sure this has happened with other threads.
caber
I've asked him before.
He doesn't use the forum anymore, so it's not top of his priorities.
Cheers

must be some hacking info out there for "XMB 1.8 Partagium " which is what the forum runs on, on apache on linux of course...
but maybe thats not the best approach
maybe not but I suppose in the interests of completeness it is an option!!!
but thinking about it, it would have to be the underlying database that runs some sort of sql that you'd want to target.
must be time for bed..

OK I've been thinking about this and on balance I think it should be deleted for the good of the site.
I am, however a litte uneasy that the potential censorship issues seem to be being ignored.
Personal views expressed in the thread should be treated as valid, if honestly held and I think the general point about elitism and snobbery is worth
expressing.
we're setting a precident here.
I'll delete my posts and "Sign" the petition.
Cheers
Chris
keep posting on this thread for a while.
Let bygons be bygons etc.
As far as i can tell its only Caterhams and Robin Hoods that get it in the neck.
In reality we all like kit cars and all those that are building will be building to their capabilities.
Now i have started i will carry on a bit.
I actualy like a couple of the cars on the barry boys site, i don't particularly like the Bugati old or new, i prefer the new Jag to the Aston. I
have seen some excellent Robin Hoods and some doubtfull other makes.
Nobody on this site is stupid but i am sure we have all done some stupid things.
Lets get back on track with helping each other.

OK all my posts are gone, that's 40 minutes of my life that I won't get back.
Still a bit uneasy about it though.
Cheers
Chris
What's happening here. Ashamed of our collective past history. To delete it now would be hypocritical. No More Censorship.
Why not remove "Longest Running Threads:" setting from the XMB software. I assume this is possible. The 'problem thread' would no longer be a problem as you'd have to search to find it, nobody would be censored. Problem solved.
I don't agree with censorship although in the past I have changed maybe a couple of my posts that seemed to have offended a miniscule minority on
here.
anyways, I may have looked at the thread once, can't even recall what I read there but I don't recall it being anything more than some p$$$
taking.
If a Caterham owner is offended, they have the option to respond or just ignore it realising it is just nonsenscial garbage. If they are that
sensitive so as not too join the forum because of what they read there, then they should not trawl the internet for fear of offense.
Tis now gone!
Many thanks ChrisW
