i'm having to sell my evo to fund first house purchase. I'm keeping the kit car and i'm lucky enough to get a company car but i'm fancying a quad bike.

Has any1 had any experience?

i understand that you can ride it on a car license?

any ideas about insurance?

what sort of thing do i look at? i want something that goes well and looks nice not one of them cheap ones. Do i buy new or used?
what makes are good etc?

any input appreciated?

second hand raptor 600 yamaha or more cheaper the suzuki 400 one.

both look like racing quads

dont go a quad on the road its deadly my pal has two a raptor and a suzuki hes came off his yellow suzuki with road tyres on it (on the road )and he races them ,tells me there real crap on the road.

Yamaha or the bomber with the rotax ds650 cheaper brands you get what you pay for. Honda strong but heavy....

I was on the M25 in my F1-2 and a quad pulled along side me at 70. He gave me the thumbs up and then disappeared into the sunset.
And I thought I was a loon !!!

Better make sure that your wife has taken out good life insurance if you ride a quad like him!

They are not pleasant to ride on the road and hp restrictions apply if they are proper road legal quads. They are the ride of choice for all the would be drug suppliers round here and I'm only 5 miles from Chesterfield. Yes you can carry a passenger if the vehicle is designed to.

My mate had a raptor, awesome bit of kit but he got bored of it after a few months.

It was fully road legal but found road use very tiring as they just want to go straight forward due to a lack of diff.

He did had a field for off roading , but again once you have been around that for a few days the thrill dies.

If you really want one then I would look to buy a cheapy and see how you get on before spending sensible cash on a worthwhile one.

You will also need a couple of mates with equivilent ones to race around the fields.
