It might make a reasonable donor?

scottc - 5/3/07 at 11:28 AM

I might start ringing around the insurance companies, see if I can buy it off them.

Haven't seen any body panels come up on ebay though.

You guys crack me up If you had one you would soon get sick of it. I always take the BMW diesel now on trips and leave the Veyron at home. Ive got one of the rare 2-tone black and red versions. Wife uses it for shopping. Ive been away on a trip - hope its all right

iank - 5/3/07 at 11:43 AM

Mine came with a boot full of disposable driving licenses. Did yours?

Browser - 5/3/07 at 12:12 PM

It would have to be a UK owner who was first to mangle one wouldn't it!

02GF74 - 5/3/07 at 12:18 PM

a bit of T-cut and that'll polish out,

dilley - 5/3/07 at 01:38 PM

russbost - 5/3/07 at 02:07 PM

Surely that's not the first to crash is it? I seem to remember them mangling several of them on test tracks while they tried to make it handle.

From the link

"According to the source, this is the first time a private customer has actually crashed a Veyron. Engineers reportedly destroyed two prototype examples during testing, which was part of the reason for the long delays during the vehicle’s development."

So first paying customer to bend one.

The thread doesnt mention the astra coming the other way it hit with a 7 Month pregnant driver. It was doing just over the ton when it lost control, near chertsey...

£20k a day hire car

andyps - 6/3/07 at 03:27 PM

I love the fact that the insurance assessors are considering whether or not it is repairable. Is that Mark Allanson? Seriously though, surely any UK Insurance assessor would not have the knowledge to make a decision without sending the car back to Molsheim.

Also, thinking of buying the salvage, what could you do with it other than making another Bug? Surely with the requirement for aero stability and cooling the mechanicals would be used to less than their capability in any other shape.

I wondered about that Ned, but the Sun article says "Nick Lancaster, Chief Executive of dealers HR Owen which sold the motor". Not that the Sun is necessarily to be regarded as being accurate.

ned - 6/3/07 at 06:46 PM

well it just made the end of the 6 o'clock national news!

Ned.

cossey - 6/3/07 at 08:53 PM

surely youd have it on a guaranteed repair policy so it gets fixed regardless of cost?? its not like you can just pop down to the dealers and get a replacement

But even with a car costing £850k there still probably comes a point where it would cost more to repair than it is worth, at which point the insurance company will give you the value of the car and you join the back of the queue for another one.
