Norris planes are now much sought after, and I have noticed that there are less for sale as time goes on, many going out of the country to collectors overseas, the rarer models fetching very high prices. A number of people have reproduced these planes or variations of them, many of equal quality. I feel sure that as the demand by cabinetmakers for fine tools increases, some manufacturer somewhere will produce new models based on the Norris design in sufficient quantities to bring the price within the reach of such craftsmen

I'd get it off ebay NOW. If I was you.

That was back in 2000

Blimey too late for exactly the same quote.

Wish i could find a gem like that in my garage! Bit like the watch in Only Fools and Horses. Although i'd be amazed if it went for as much as that did!

Get it pulled and QUICK.

Do some thorough research and maybe get it valued by an expert. When's the next antiques roadshow? You might get to be on telly........

If you read the bit at the top of the page..................

some of the many fine tools that I have sold over the years

Phil

Yup, you are right, but shortly below that it says "tools pictured are not for sale..."

bit missleading i must say, but read it which ever way you feel. The fact that its on a site called gallery of rare tools must mean something in terms of the £££s

Or you could leave it to run for another six days to see what it reaches. Just alter the description to say that you 'reserve the right to withdraw it from e-bay, as you have it for sale elsewhere'

nib1980 - 9/3/07 at 06:13 PM

I've emailed a couple of guys now to see what happens, and what they think.

crikey , I might be able to finish my buid early now!

anyone else with anyideas please let me know

Or we could go in as ringers and see how far the other bidders are prepared to go!

Or would that be naughty?

If they are offering £230 to BIN, its worth a LOT more...

Dont sell it on Ebay.. take it to a specialist market.. Pull it off Ebay for ANY reason.. just say item no longer for sale.

rusty nuts - 9/3/07 at 07:21 PM

Keep an eye out at the local car boot sales me thinks!! Best of luck selling it

RoadkillUK - 9/3/07 at 08:16 PM

HERE is a Norris A71 that finished one eBay 2 weeks ago.

Chippy - 9/3/07 at 11:42 PM

I have two of them a 71 like yours, and a wooden smoothing plane. They are not in as good condition, as they have been extensively used by my grandfather, then my father, and then me, (whole bunch of chippies ). Definately would not sell them, because they are so nice to use, far better than those bloody steel ones, of which I also have a few. Ray

gazza285 - 10/3/07 at 02:31 AM

Also from:
http://www.antiquetools.co.uk/norris.html

"The precise dates for the closing of the Norris factory remain unclear, however it would seem likely that it closed around 1944. Records show that a firm of electrical engineers Wayne Kerr & Co Ltd occupied the old premises"

Replaced by a Wayne Kerr.

nib1980 - 10/3/07 at 07:07 AM

Well you my well be a rich man now. My first contact says they are changing hands in australia, for between 350 and 400£ but expects them on ebay to go for more!
