A few days ago in another post i noted that i'd left chris's book on the loo floor and the misses had been reading it. Now she wants a
locost and she wants to help build it.
We are still in the design/thinking stage as we have a new baby and time is currently too precious, and we're having the bec/cec debate.
She's put her foot down there.... she wants a BEC. Did i marry well or what? There was me collecting info on duratecs and zetecs and now i need
a stuffed r1 and some plastic seats. Her exact words - "if we're going to spend all this time doing this it's got to be god damn
fast."
I am however a little worried about this. The garage is sacred space, the man's domain, the neatral ground where neither boss nor wife can nag
or override you. Here you can work like a dervish or crack a tinny and talk b*ll***s with phil from nextdoor, like whether you'd rather ride an
R1 or angelina jolie, or whether both together would be possible.
Now the garage too will be his and hers.
Is this a politically correct bridge too far, or is this the best of all worlds?
I'm in two minds yet again!! Anyone else got SWMBO onboard?
wait till she works out how much you wanna spend.
my wifer isnt interested, neither is she against it....just whinges at the money.
My sister wants one now... nightmare, I just know she will want it bright pink or something silly
male pride..what you talking about.
id love my wife to be more invoved and get her hands dirty...she just isnt interested.
I'm really pleased that my wife likes my car, and nags me now and then to take her out in it. She has frequently bought me bits for it (Xmas
& birthdays) and doesn't whinge when I suggest buying new stuff.
In fact, she's nagging me to buy new seats - mind you, the existing ones are a bit bum-aching on a long run!
Mine will be up for sale soon, as she'd prefer (read: wants) a full roll cage for track days
She doesn't like BEC's as there's no reverse, but she does like the acceleration !
She's just done an Exige day at Silverstone and wasn't the slowest there, got really good marks on her appraisal sheet too
Wouldn't trust her with a spanner though, got to draw the line somewhere.
My 4 year old nephew wants me to make him one. They are contagious.
mines not sure on the reverse issue either, nor am i to be honest as i' like to use the car lots. Personally I like the idea of an electric reverse - not keen on sticking a reverse box in. Have heard leccy ones have issues with amps drawn, though i was thinking surely you can use a car sized battery? or does that cause issues?

mines on board
helped me paint the chassis
and carry it back in garage
helps with decisions on what to buy
style/colour
good girl i say
Having no reverse doesn't cause me any problems. Only once where a car in front missed the turning and wanted to reverse back. I shouted
I've no reverse and he pulled off. No worries.
If you want an electric reverse go fireblade as they've more room around the output shaft to mount a sprocket. I've seen some electric
reverse attempts, just don't stick a twig or an incline in their way !
Other half thinks it will be too cold
Oh well!

My missus has always been a petrol head. She used to have a Road Rocket (650 BSA bike for those too young to know).
She has already had a bright pink car. I saw it in a showroom as a demonstrator and said "Who the f**k would want to drive that?" Totally
Fatal Remark!
She helped me to build a shed and does all my polishing.
She is also a brilliant cook and my best mate and that's after 34 years together.
Am I not the luckiest of men?
Girlfriends, wives, partners, sisters....... most excellent news
Thank you for your kind words Zil.....
Come on guys, encourage your other halves to get involved.
You wont ever be at a loss as to what to buy her for Christmas, birthdays etc....... so you win!
Car shows, auto jumbles....not a problem, you can go to as many as you want.....together..... you win....
If by chance, after a while, they feel building is not for them....imagine what a hero you will be on finishing it by yourself.
She can't moan about the time you will be spending in the garage, because, if she was still building with you, it would be done quicker.....you
win...
So, all in all, you are in a win, win situation!
I have always been happy with spanners, and love metal work, so, it was an absolute pleasure to build.... and it was my first 'solo' engine
re-build, so icing on the cake for me..
Also, being a petrol head, we both have race licences, so speed freaks anyway...
But...haven't taken the Fozzmobile on the track yet.
...(my fault)
Oh, and they are never finished.....are they!
Come on girls!.......
