DaveFJ - 21/3/07 at 01:44 PM

Well he gone and went and doen it didn't he!

doubled road tax for 'high poluting' vehicles. so that will be £400 for me as of next year... and it's only a little hatchback... grrrr

coozer - 21/3/07 at 01:46 PM

Calm down dear!!

Read on and it tells you its only for new registered vehicles.

It also says the lowest band for the least polluting will be zero, to qualify all you need to do is walk!

TGR-ECOSSE - 21/3/07 at 01:47 PM

Think it depends on when your car was built. After 2003 i think was when car manufacturers had to provide figures. Hopefully as my discovery and bmw are older than that

worX - 21/3/07 at 01:47 PM

So my 1999 2.0 T Diesel will remain the same (for now at least) ??

cheers,
Steve.

"Mr Brown made plain that the new band was not retrospective and did not apply to 4x4s and other heavily emitting cars bought before last April. They were put into Band F and will remain there. "

Hang on!! I've heard this before, how come the lowest band it cost nowt, they still use the road! and it is a road tax isn't it!!! If not WTF is it and what goes to repairing the already very pot-holed roads.

steve m - 21/3/07 at 06:59 PM

just worked it out, and i will be £135 better off next year, no matter what car i choose from band A to F
so it proves, the calculator doesnt work

You're making the common basic mistake - that road tax has anything to do with keeping the roads in good condition. It's just another way for Gordon to collect money to waste...

speedyxjs - 21/3/07 at 07:49 PM

Ah Yes... The Tax Free Band...

Only Two cars qualify, One is no longer made, and the other is not imported into the UK.
Yup... They didnt give much away there did they

The Tax for the "environmental" cars is cars registered after about 2001 (ish).
Anything before that is still on the old style tax, and I think that has gone up by about £5 to £180, and my Viento is in the same bracket and that's a Q reg.

David Jenkins - 21/3/07 at 08:26 PM

At least I've just paid my £175 tax...

As far as all these gains or losses we are discussing are concerned, I wouldn't trust Wee Gordon to tell the truth as far as I could throw a house...
...in the end, I am sure we'll end up paying more.

(Cynical? Moi?)
