Does anyone know or read anywhere what the the new road tax prices will be ?? how will it effect kit cars with 3.5 upwards (v8) ?? Is , or will there be any sort of an exemption for kit cars ??.

Its a right scam if kit car owners doing limited miles are going to have to pay in te region of 400 quid per annum in 2008 when they only drive approx 2000 miles a year .

Your car won't be paying road tax based on emmissions figures, ever. If it's on a Q plate or age related plate there's exemptions that mean you'll pay the standard 'old' rate on the 'old system' - about £175 i think for 12 months.

As the manufacturer - do I declare the g/km of CO2?

Just done mine for 12 months up £5 to £180 for 12 months.

I wish we had the Dutch system, duty & insurance based on vehicle weight.

my BEC is less than a 1.4 so qualifies for low rate road tax.

These high rates of Tax, ONLY apply to vehicles on the graded emmissions Tax band. ie most cars registered after 1 March 2001.

If you are a NEW kit, ie getting an 07 reg, then you may well fall into that category.

Q reg cars just get the Old style tax, as the age of the vehicle is not dateable.
Emissions are done for the age of the engine which you have to prove at SVA.

So there is good reason to have a Q plate. Fit as old an engine that you can find, get it through the SVA, then change the engine fow whatever you want later (next Winters project).
