OT - Skydiving experience, anyone done one?
Duncan_P - 27/3/07 at 07:18 PM

I think this is about as off topic as you can get, but i figured i would test the seemingly limitless knowledge/experience of people on this forum.

Anyway back to the question, it is my younger brothers 21st soon (please read as so soon that i should have sorted this earlier) and as part of a co-operative present I was thinking of getting him a skydiving experience. My initial thoughts were to just get him a tandem jump, but im now tempted by a RAPS 2 day course. Do people think that it is worth spending the extra for a RAPS course? And can anyone recomend somewhere they have been for either a tandem jump or a RAPS course?

Sorry for going off topic so drastically.

Cheers Duncan

So what you're saying is that you want to throw your brother out of an aeroplane?

I have the feeling sometimes too

Duncan_P - 27/3/07 at 07:24 PM

Yer preferably minus the parachute

But i might get in trouble for that

personly i cant think of anything more daft than jumping out of a perfectly good plane
not much help that i know sorry

Hmm I'd be interested in hearing more about this RAPS thing, I've been looking into doing a jump for charity (I'm not that charitable, but raise over £400 you jump free!!) But the thing is you need some serious balls to jump out of a plane - Do you think your brother can hack it?
Would be a pi$$ down the sink if not is all .. .
Regards
Matt

Yer i dont think there are any worries there, he's even more of an adrenaline junky than me. Anyway if he bottled it he knows what the ribbing would be like for the next few months/years

If he only wants to do one jump then tandem is the way to go but if he thinks he may do more (almost everyone says they will but few stick with it ) then RAPS or even an accelarated freefall course is the way to got . I'm a bit out of touch but I think you have a local drop zone ? Whatever he do'es tell him to relaxe and enjoy it Think there is at least 2 other jumpers on here so you may get some more up to date info.

I've got a 40th coming up I might start dropping the hint!!!

Seriously though I'd love to do a solo jump at some point.

Just spotted the ads for parachute courses at the bottom of this page , spookey or what

Duncan_P - 27/3/07 at 08:48 PM

They will be keyword driven..... remember 'BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU' or always seems to be on the internet.

Salisbury seems to be the nearest drop zone that i have found....

After initially thinking about buying him the RAPS course i think the Tandem might be a better choice as a present.

i would agree - if he really likes it he can sort himself out for more, without risking wasting money.

If at first you don't succeed, Sky Diving's not for you.

I did "indoor skydiving" last week at Airkix, Milton Keynes. Brilliant experience & a lot cheaper, and safer than falling out of a plane!! It's basically a vertical wind tunnel with 130 mph wind!

a tandem jump is the way to go if you want a quick adrenaline fix and to see what skydiving is all about.

a RAPS course is the way to go if you want to do it yourself and carry on to do further jumps.

AFF is only if you are sure you want to be a skydiver and you are willing to part with over £1200.00

I got into skydiving after my wife bought me a tandem jump for my 30th birthday, after that jump i was hooked. I booked myself on a RAPS course and about a year later and 30+ jumps i got my FAI licence.

try a tandem skydive to see if your brother likes it first..........its not for everyone
