Before i sign up with it, is there any hidden extra's i should know about?
How good is it?
safe?

I only use it for paying for things, i have'nt had any problems yet.
the fees for recieving money are a rip off, anything over £50 is a killer,
pretty safe as long as you don;t fall for the "we need your paypal account details updating, click this link" type of emails.
one tip is to fund payments to your paypal account from a credit card, not a debit card or bank acccount, that way your covered by the credit card
company if things go pear shaped.

I've had a few refunds from them now after not recieving stuff, so I'm not complaining, but as already said, if selling watch out for the
charges

Cheers all
i use it all the time. much safer, easy to get a refund if needed. and if you add the extra to asking price on sales, then its not a problem with the fees.... its like an extra bank account. transfers to ya bank etc are easy.....
I use it and so far have not had any problems.
Agree about feeding the PPal account with a Credit card, and NOT a debit card. You get some protection from the Consumer Credit Act by using a credit
card.
I use a separate card, just for internet purchases and have a low limit on it, to help limit any potential damage to me.
ie £200. Set a low limit and the card company cant complain if they pay out more than £200 (in my case).
You can always raise the limit if you have a large purchase looming.
