Hi everyone from another newbie builder!

I've been reading the forums for a while now and have finally taken the plunge and bought a donor sierra from ebay to get the ball rolling. I started stripping the parts last weekend and seeing as though my experience of car maintenance to date has been changing the odd oil filter and brake pads, am finding it good fun!

I've not decided on a kit yet although I do like the Indy and had a chat with one of the MK guys (didn't catch the name unfortunately) who was very helpful in answering my questions at total kit car Snetterton last summer

From what I've picked up from the forums, I think a CEC would suit me with either a 1.8 or 2.0 zetec but again, this choice is not cast in stone.

I'll be heading over to Stonleigh in May to have a look around the cars, get some ideas, and hopefully have a chat with some other builders in the flesh

I've just spotted the recent post in this section regarding a white locost sighting in Hockwold - I used to live there with my folks until recently. Theres some great country roads to blast along in surrounding area and I'm looking foward to driving my build around there once finished

Have you bought the new book? If you have a donor this is a good start, if you do not feel up to welding the chassis MK will be doing one soon. If you have any welding experience then its not beyond you building from scratch, the more you do yourself the more you learn and the new book is a lot more complete than the old one so it will be easier to build from!

Welcome mate, MK is a great car to go for but there are many others to have a look at like MNR, MAC1,GTS,TIGER,LUEGO.
They all have there good and bad points.

You will have to choose which one suits you the best.

Has to be MK to im sure we have the fastest growin in numbers take a look 2003 think i was on my own at Stoneliegh and last year 40+ this year well will be over 50 or i will eat my hat. Each of our kits are so individual to not like some i could mention rows of the same units...Yawn

i might get to join you as my sva is the 18th so you never know, and i'd love to see you eat a hat.

Hi Lee you need to have a good look at all the cars have a sit in them etc

to be honest there all good and basically the same to build...

go out in a CEC and also dont put aside the Bike Engine.... till youve been in one... Im sure I know what will happen.

You've really got me thinking about bike engines now and I thought I'd gotten everything already figured out!

I've been taking more parts off the sierra today and have made a fair amount of progress. No doubt you've seen pics like these before but I feel like I have achieved something







Engine and gearbox were removed this afternoon so I now have some parts to start cleaning up



next step will be removing the diff, loom, steering rack, prop shaft etc.. so still have lots to keep me busy


I have the old book but not the new one and had considered doing my own chassis but decided it would be easier and quicker to purchase one pre made. I've done quite a bit of welding before for a company called Triten (or Trimay back then) before I went to university but this was all fairly heavy stick and submerged arc welding repairing and applying hardfacing to steel mill rollers. Due to this and lack of MIG skills I've decided on the pre built route, probably with the Indy starter kit. I'll wait until after Stoneleigh before making the final decision though as I want have a good look round first, plus I still have some saving to do!

Welcome and good luck with the build dude, just remember that if you ever get stuck at any part of your build then all you have to do is post a question on here and someone will almost certainly be able to help you out.
Of course we won't all give the same answers due to differing oppinions and some truly classic arguments arise as a result but its all mostly light hearted, mostly!
Problems don't even have to be car related, together as a collective group we know just about everything.

That gearbox and engine are far too heavy to put in an Indy, or any other LSIS for that matter! Save yourself a load of hassle cleaning it and just drop a bike engine in.
