Not being used to injection engines , I would like to ask possible a dumb question. My car has developed an intermittant missfire. Sometimes it drives
smooth and others it misses and feels like its only on 7 cylinders. I am going to change all the plugs and leads but I cant help feeling that it could
be dirt from the tank. Do injectors get blocked? Can you just take them out and clean them?
I have taken one plug off at a time and this gives no noticable differece. It seems to be missing only on load.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like an ignition problem to me. Best bet is to replace rotor arm, dizzy cap and leads. I'd just do them all at once but you could do them
one at a time in order of cost.
The other thing which might be involved is the distributor itself. Depending on which type you have they can sometimes give problems with broken wires
internally due to the vacuum advance mechanism movement.
I'd try the high voltage stuff first though, especially if the problem gets worse under load. Dizzy cap is my best guess.

Might be worth trying a bottle of injector cleaner as well !
Would try rotor arm first but don't buy a Halfrauds own brand one....a mate did that and it lasted all of 10 miles before it disintegrated...
I've had no probs with a Halfords rotor arm - maybe it was just a cracked one he had? This can happen very easily if they are dropped.

Start with a set of plugs --- get NGK
If that dosen't work try the plug leads.
Rover group did have problems with misfires caused by rototor arm faults in the late 80s early 90s.
Which fuel injection system is on your engine if it is the type with the mechanical flap metering system try some carb cleaner on the flap pivots.
If its all rover V8 ignition bits, they are prone to weak sparks. NGK plugs, and everything else in tip top condition is the order of the day
(Ignition wise).
