Clio tintop
omega 24 v6 - 15/4/07 at 06:34 PM

SWMBO tintop 1.2 16v 03 plate clio has had a hiccup twice this week.
First time I was driving it and while stopped waiting for a lorry to manouvre all was ok till I tried to move away and nothing/no power etc. A rev up and still a bit jittery but it went away and has been ok since. Then this morning the same thing happened to swmbo. It doesn't stall or anything like that just no power and after a minute it's all ok again. Both times have been first thing in the morning with a cold engine warming up. Anyone come across this before?? I just know at some point I'll get the phone call "it's broken down what do I do" so hopefully I'll be prepared what to look at first. OH and no engine management lights are on when this happens.

Moisture in the dizzy cap?

omega 24 v6 - 15/4/07 at 09:12 PM

Nah its a coil pack jobbie.

Ketchup - 15/4/07 at 09:44 PM

i replace lots of the coils on the 16v renault engines, also the map sensors can int go down, causes hesitation etc

omega 24 v6 - 16/4/07 at 11:42 AM

Interesting ketchup. thinking to myself its prolly a tps or map sensor as the car does not stall YET. Only it wont accellerate.

omega 24 v6 - 31/5/07 at 11:45 AM

Well it's taken a while but today I get the phone call that it's doing it again but worse (longer periods) it still doesn't stall but won't take the welly and still 400yds after a cold start. I must admit that it has felt for a while that it's got a hesitation about it at light/constant throttle loads (MAP sensor??) but also on one occasion recently the fuel pump was VERY noisy. Any more ideas as it's difficult to pin down an intermitant problem. Where's the map at ??? can i get in to measure the resistance or is that part in the ecu?? OH and still no managemnt lights.

Mark Allanson - 31/5/07 at 09:39 PM

It is french, and its female, so it plays up just because it can, for no reason, and at the most inconvenient times

froggy - 31/5/07 at 09:48 PM

check all earths and the earth pins into the ecu ,probably not coil related if its cold running issue .the mil light may not come on but it might have logged some codes . id look at the maf and tps first

NS Dev - 31/5/07 at 09:51 PM

sorry but Mark Allanson is right, its french and its a clio, no ned to say more!

Could it be a sign of a failing TPS?
Maybe it loses the plot for a bit until you give some serious throttle action which kicks it into life again?

Cheers

Alex

i hate it when cars do that, my car recently had trouble with its starter while we were on holiday. so i get a new one from ebay, however before it arrives that car is fine, every time my girlfriend uses it it starts perfectly. Its only while i was there it would have issues starting, very wierd.

at least the starter was easy to replace.

omega 24 v6 - 19/7/08 at 08:21 AM

Well it's been OK up till now again and it's started doing it again Only slightly worse. You can now provoke a stall. It seems to be ok if you can keep the revs above 2500 and it'll rev freely up and down between these revs. Sill no warning lights though so don't know where to start. its got a fly by wire throttle so that seems like a logical place to look but does anyone know how to check it. I presume that beacause the ecu is getting some sort of signal (although the wrong one possibly) that it won't recognise the fault.
Anyone got any ideas this time???

Edited to add that NOTHING has been done to the car since this problem started 18 months ago no parts have been replaced to try and solve the problem it's just gone and come back

French electrics = poodle pooh.

I have heard of problems with engine bay wiring corrosion on Renaults. I think the first thing to do check all the sensor and wiring connectors are making good contact and then read and clear the fault codes.

Personally I would also check the cts, map and tps give sensible glitch free results.

This is the biggest problem there are no fault codes stored at all EVER. The car so far has always restarted and run again. Shit french cars as you say.

Sorry mate but this is not an option at the moment. I do however wish I'd had as many genuine answers/advice as I've had crap humour ones

Interesting thread, we have an 03 Clio 1.2 16v and it did this on hols last week, felt like a dirty TPS pot to me. Not done it since. A few dabs on the throttle and it sprung back into life. Not done anything about it yet, but may have to in the winter!

JamJah - 21/7/08 at 01:50 PM

Sorry.
I didn't mean to be too sarcastic. I had a 5 year old Clio about 5 years ago. Why did i replace it? I worked out it cost more to keep on the road then I would loose on depreciation on a new car.
although i do love Clio's I dont love the aftercare as much.

No offence taken as I knew what you meant but I just wish I could get to the back of this problem. The car is great otherwise and has only cost me a couple of services and a set of tyres and disc pads. It's SWMBOS car anyways but the fact that the problem is coming and going does'nt help in the diagnosis.

Silly question but have you been down to the Mandela for a chat and cup of coffee. you could always authorise them to work out the problem but then say the repair bit is too expensive (and take it elsewhere/diy). or just ask them if its a known fault.
i doubt they'd know cos the one's down here tend to be replace first then work out problem later.

No cause the guys a prick and what he does know you could write on a pinhead
Besides i reckon the collective knowledge on here is much more likely to produce results. i mean the first thing they'll do is stick it on a computer and charge £25 minimum and theyre are no codes logged at all so what's the point.
