Any body know range rover classics? my dad just bought a caravan, so i was choosen to go and tow it back with my range rover classic. I was more worried of over heating but it was fine all the way home, EXCEPT after 10 minutes my ABS light came on, it seems my brake lights dont work now and ALL fuses are fine, even the ones under the passenger seat where the ABS ecu is.

Any sugestions?

does the abs work ? ie not lock up wheels when you realy plant the stop peadle ?

abs usually work with a judder as the break pad locks the wheel the backs off.

Have you checked the ohter obvious fluid up to the max level ?

could be a wiring problem with the trailer socket or caravan wiring. if the rangie has been off road seriously the tow frame takes a hammering and so does the trailer socket. I am not experienced with abs ecu but it may need resetting if it has seen a fault.

need to check if the abs is still working. Not been of road since i woned it so im sure its not the under chassis wiring alltho i will need to check it out. i ust looked at the haynes and its a simple circuit and the fuse is ok for it, power is there as the same fuse powers other working items.

if the brake pedal switch was faulty, would the abs unit know this and light up the warning light?

Don't know if this will work for you but it works on some cars but disconect the battery for a while and this can reset the ecu. It might run a bit rough for a while after as ecu has to re-learn its "stuff". I have heard that abs ecu's can go on Range Rovers. My engine ecu suddenly packed in on my Range Rover last year and never ran right untill the day i sold it

Is it possible that both brake bulbs are blown and the abs light is working as a bulb failure device as well???????
I don't know owt about rangies but just trying to suggest a possible solution. Check for power at the bulb holders and work your way back.

faulty brake pedal switch will bring abs light on, dont get many in the garage for work, but i have replaced a switch on one before

I had a brake warning light come on in my Passat once. Turns out it has two switches to activate the brake lights, a pressure switch in the hydraulics and a micro switch on the pedal. When one of them stopped working, the lights still worked, but the warning came on to make you take it to a stealer.

On a Rover 800 I had the abs light came on, one of the brake light bulbs had gone, I replaced it, no more abs light. Got to be worth trying.

just been out checking the pedal switch, pulled it off, pluged the wires back in, brake light now work! lol, put it pack onto the car, brake light now stay on all the time! LMFAO

Looked in the haynes manual and did the fault code thing with the abs light, it also showed the fault was from the switch.

At least now i have confirmation that its the switch and i have (curently) the brake lights working again.

better not be a costly part.
