'97 P Peugeot 106 buyers guide
DarrenW - 23/4/07 at 09:27 AM

Im going to see a little Peugeot at 1pm today. Its a 60K miler, 4 door, P reg owned by an older couple for the last 3 years. All old MOT's etc, 8 months MOT, no tax (disabled). They are asking £800 for it which seems fairish ish (perhaps top book).

I know all of the obvious general things to look at when buying cars but does anyone know of any 106 specific things i should look out for?

Thanks in advance,
Darren.

hi there
i have a pug 106 diesel n reg 130k miles
look out for:
1 wear of the rear swing arm suspension bearings
check by rocking the wheels back and forth from the top of the wheel with the car on the ground
2 drive shafts knocking on full lock especialy the near side
3 gear change linkage (i think it will be the same as petrol engine)
difficult to check without jacking up

hope you are not put off by the above

cheers keith

Also check from knocks over bumps and on roundabouts.

Common for ARB bushes and drop links to be worn. Not expensive to replace.

Also check for a good idle and no hesitation on accleration. Common throttle body faults.

Also heated rear window as the relay is common to go faulty and is about £50.

Check switch gear works properly as dry joints are also common.

You’ll lose the tax-free bit. My blue Bluebird was a disabled owners car, hence it's an auto and the outrageous 27k after 19 years . So don’t be lead into being told that it’s a selling point. The DVLA if they find out that your fraudulently claiming will promptly take you to court.

i will keep well inside the law and get it registered properly. Cant remember how to do it now though! Hope i dont have to take a trip to DVLA!

Ill factor the new tax into the cost. Im going to try and haggle based on this. From what ive seen there isnt too much to worry about with these little Pugs, seem to be decent cars. The car will rarely leave our town, will mainly be used to do school runs when im away in the company car.

I just went to the DVLA office and told them the tax on the car had changed (did it at the same time I changed the ownership) I believe there is a bit on the form for this so you can simply send it away.

What a tidy little car that turned out to be!

Not disabled tax so no hassle and vaild to end June. 2 owners. Everything works. ARB bush to change. Apart from that spot on. Interior almost like new. A few honesty marks on the outside but generally excellent.

Mine for £775. Well chuffed. Cheapest car ive bought for a long time

nice one, there are many amazing buys these days for very little money as the old tin worm seems to have been beaten on modern cars. I've never been one for buying new cars as I consider them just a fulish waste of money.
