I have a 1996 Mondeo 2litre Zetec 4x4 (I can hear you laughing already
) Its got a missfire that feels like its sometimes running not so much on 3
cylinders but badly on all 4 and only seems to run right over 4,000 revs. I have changed the plugs, leads and coil but it only made a slight
improvement. Also sometimes the revs drop back slowly.Have gone over the usual things and all seems ok. Any ideas??
Ps I also have a Discovery,BMW 730i,Escort van and 2 part built locosts. (only adding this to dilute laughter away from owning a mondeo)

ive got a mundano as well
are you sure the ht caps are on properly?
vacuum pipe that runs close to the underside of the coil pack bracket is very prone to splitting, will cause it to drop its revs at idle and hesitate on throttle

The kids want me to put bigger 4x4 badges on it so they can get a hint of street cred

Thanks will check that out. Thats the kind of help this site is realy good for

crank sensor on the way out?
AFM possible too. Worth carefully cleaning the thingy wire.
Does it idle OK? If not it would suggest a vacuum leak somewhere.
Also if you've got a PCV (Crankcase breather) on the silvertop (its on the end of the vacuum line under the coilpack into the front of the block
on the oil separator, on a blacktop) then check its not stuck open/closed.
I'll have the 730i.I need an engine for a E30 job
.Just to help you out....
It does idle ok most of the time but sometimes ticks over about 1,500 rpm.
Will check other things when i get home (check the time of this post
)
In answer to BMW question you can have the engine for free if you give me £1,200 for the rest of the car
Sods law again for you as i could have had a complete 735 a few weeks ago for next to nothing bbut its now a 3ft square cube in scrappy
Thanks again for help
