i went to the dentist today and was told i need to have 2 or 4 wisdom teeth out.
people have been telling me horror stories, anyone had it done and whats it like?
You don't want to know... you REALLY don't want to know...
Around here, it's usually a hospital dental surgery job...
You not been cleaning your teeth?
I know loads of people who've had it done. Nothing too horrendous that I know of.
Just don't do what my mate tried to do and remove a bad molar by putting the tip of a biro against it and hitting the end.... shearing off the
tooth level with the gum was not a fun experience!
Cheers,
James
If you have them done under general anaesthetic its not too bad!!!
Under local anaesthetic it can be a bit tricky- when they get out the pry bars you know you're going to look like you've taken up boxing the
next morning.....
I had an easy one removed a couple of years ago, no hassle, no problem not even any pain
Just close your eyes and go to your "happy place"
Oh dear
Had to have mine out a few years back. Had it done by local anesthetic, but not all at once.
Wasn't too bad at all!
mushy diet for a while, soups, scrambled egg etc, but healed up nicely.
Good luck!
Fozzie
They do ban you from eating fried breakfasts for about 2 years after though.... something about some chemical reaction or summat.
So suicide's your best option!

I had a molar which broke down to the root flush with the gum.
The dentist got it out verrrrrry easily indeed. Techniques have come a long way in recent years.
Relax - it will not be a big deal.
(I used to be sh*t scared of the dentist, now I'm absolutely fine. )
I had 2 out a couple of years ago and the denitst just levered them with a bar and "POP" they just jumped out - no pain just a small amout of bleeding..
I had my two top ones out the same time as some broken jaw surgery and boy, did they bleed! When I woke from the surgery I spewed loads of black blood
up, but apart from that it was OK. Go for it!

Oh, had my jaws wired together for two months after that as well

That's it coozer, make him feel good about it!!
Top wisdom teeth are easy. I had mine done and it was no problem. The bottom ones are the problem. If the roots are straight and don't go near
the nerve then it's not too bad but it can ne a nightmare. I was still sent to the dental hospital to have it done though.
they had to cut the gum on either side then stitch it afterwards. It took 2 weeks for the pain to ease, during which time I was on the full dose of
paracetemol and codene with ibuprofen taken half way between doses to cover the come down off the paracetamol. I'd still wake up with chronic
tooth ache in the early hours though.
I've had no problems since geting them done though.
I'm having some fitted next week.
thanks for cheering me up chaps and chapess, its the bottom ones that need to come out, dont know how ill cope without the fryups, maybe suicide is a
better option?
Awww ya'll be fine!
I think it's true to say, from the replies above that everyone is different...
When are you booked in to have it done?
Fozzie
Whilst it's not quite the same, can you grill the fry up instead?
I saw someone having their wisdom teeth done under hypnotherapy (no anaesthethic) so with local it should be easy!!!!
Had mine out, didn't hurt. Big bruise on my chest though where he had his knee while he was pulling it out.
I had all mine out after my university finals. I passed but it has been all downhill since then. That's why I decided to build my own car I
suppose, total lack of wisdom

I think the bills gonna will hurt more..........

Glad I'm stupid and mine haven't come through.
John
Had mine out about twenty years ago. Same as others, tops came out easily (after a fair number of injections
).
Bottoms were different, one was ok, other the roots went in opposite directions to he had to break tooth in half then pull out each bit separately.
On all occasions, got stitched up and was eating (carefully) a cheese in crusty french stick within a couple of hours.
Have some soluable dispirin ready for when anaesthetic starts wearing off.
Only thing that hurt was the stitching on lower right where not wasn't cut short.
Friends sister had it done and looked like a gerbil for a week
Have fun

I had all 4 out in one sitting. All were impacted so probably not easy to remove but I don't remember a thing. Had it done under a local and had
rehypnol or similar drug.
All I remember was having a discussion with the dentist who was trying to convince me that Lance had quit the tour (this was a few years ago) and I
was having none of it. Lord knows what I said.
Anyway - they were removed and yes I was sore for a bit and the antibiotics did make me feel tired come lunchtimes so best to take a few days sick
leave and chill out.
What I didn't realise is how much they were affecting my health even though there was no sign of a problem until 1 week before I had them
removed. I used to wake up in a sweat for no obvious reason and this had gone on for years.
Good luck.
Jed
If you're getting pain from them, go to the chemist and get some clove oil.

Personally I would rather have mine out all over again with NO anethetics than endure the agony for even thirty seconds that the rotted, impacted
wisdom tooth gave me.
A piece of cake mate, GO FOR IT.
knowledge is mans best ally, so heres the wikipedia article on wisdom teeth:

i will undoubtedly need mine out one day, they arent in the way for now. I find my back teeth are annoying enough as they are without more coming
through!
Forever biting my tongue

Im with JGG, mine were the same, impacted rotten, was im agony for weeks, had al 4 of them out 2 days before xmas under general at hospital, got
absolutly blatted xmas eve, woke up 4 in the morning feeling like i had been hit with a baseball bat, took the antibiotics and was fine, even pigged
out on xmas day with dinner and all the trimmings,
go for the pain before was 10 times worse than it was after

"I'm having some fitted next week."
made me laugh !!
I wish some of the bimbos that work for me could have this option,
would make my life so much better!
Had my two impacted bottom teeth removed a few years ago under general anaesthetic. They were under my jaw bone so needed a bit of chiselling
Didn't feel a thing until the anaesthetic wore off and the I realised they plonker had stitched my gum to my cheek to cover the wound. That was
bloody agony when I yawned which I did often due to the anaesthetic... I ended up cutting the stitches myself with a scalpel. After that no major
problems.
Note I am sh1t scared of the dentist so I'm sure you will do fine.
Good luck,
Craig.
impacted are potentially a bigger problem - that is when the tooth decide to flip over onto it side
ideally you want it all in one sitting with a general - you wake up and job done. your face swells up like a little hamster but that only last about
a couple of days. there not much pain.
without the local I seem to recall they inject some stuff to loosen the tooth,, get the pincers out, push pull and it is out quicket than you can read
this sentence.
Im expecting to need one out at some time. its growing towads other teeth. Ive got denplan insurance just in case to reduce the bill.
Cant be as bad as getting tonsils out! If i managed to get thro that the wisdoms must be a breeze. Hope it goes well for you.
I recall some root canal work a while back. No real pain as such - the anticipation of pain was worse as you mess with your own mind. All i remember
was bad jaw ache for a few days through keeping mouth open for so long.
I had a bottom one out last year and a top one last week, both under local. No bother from either, just relief that they were out especially the top
which had an infection in the nerve. No sleep for a week made me a very grumpy boy! didn't help that it was the week before sva and late nights
in the garage were essential as well. The only problem I have had since is getting food stuck in the hole where the tooth was!
john.
If the roots are straight it isn't too bad (I've heard, got enough room for mine).
My mother had hers out and one (or more) of the roots was hooked under. The dentist gave up after wrestling with it (them?) for half an hour and sent
her to the hospital for them to finish the job by breaking them up. Not much fun at all apparently.
