Credit card fraud
zilspeed - 8/5/07 at 08:16 PM

Got in tonight to be told. "Phone this number" - freephone credit card number.

Phoned it - credit card fraud helpline.

EEEeeeekkkk !!!!!!

To cut a long story short.

"Did you spend 1900 quid with insurance company x ?"

No

"Did you spend 1600 quid with insurance company x ? "

No.

"Did you spend 2 quid on a ringtone for you phone ?"

Don't be daft.

Ok.

"Did you spend £20.39 at Tesco?"

Yip, 20 quid of petrol and a mars bar.

"That's fine - you won't be held responsible for all the unauthorised stuff we mentioned, we'll send you a declaration to sign. "

To which I asked. "How did it happen"

"The internet........."

People, be carefull out there.
Tell nothin' to nobody.

Probably got hold of your card when you were distracted by waving that red flag at Gary Dickson at Forrestburn

By the way - are those Gary's tyre marks on your avatar?

Yes indeed sir.

Are you tempted by that particular line yourself

Regarding the insurance Co.
Sounds more like mischeif making than anything else.

Hope it isn't our erstwhile pig lovin' friend.

My usual line was to dig the nose of the Hawke straight into the steepest part of the hill - shut my eyes - and wait for the front wheels to get back in touch with the tarmac. I never tried to straight-line the hill with the brakes locked!!!

Annoying isnt it! Sounds like the card co are on top of it though.

I had £400 go missing from my debit account last year. Thankfully I got it back, but it took a month, at least with the credit card you are pretty well covered.

Never did find out what it was, well I know where it was spent (some gambling place in london), but didnt find out how it happened. It could be anything from internet to a careless shop not shredding credit card reciepts, to the new thing of skimming cards in petrol stations....

Well I think that a call like "Sir, you have had this problem but I'm calling to say it's all solved" it's actually not bad at all!

We all know credic card fraud exists. Therefore we all know that this can happen. Therefore we shouldn't be so surprised if it actually happened to us. And if happened like this, I think it's quite good for the nightmare it could have been!
