Police appeal over 170mph biker

08 May 2007 15:27

Police were appealing for witnesses tonight after a speeding motorcyclist was clocked travelling at up to 170mph.

The ton-up biker was recorded by a speed trap on the A47 at Terrington St John, on Saturday afternoon.

He was travelling on a bike with bright yellow features and wearing a blue jacket.

Inspector Julian Moulton said: “This person was riding beyond the capabilities of conditions - both road and sensibility.

“They were not only putting themselves in real danger but unsuspecting road users too”.

Officers are keen to trace witnesses to the incident.

Any one with information on this or any further information about the motorcyclist can contact PC Don Walker at Swaffham Roads Policing on 0845 456 4567.

The white Focus 1.8 TD couldn't catch him then?

Lol, I know that road well. I would say its the Wisbech bypass by the sounds of it. Nice and straight, good visability, the bikers and a quick cars are often out at the weekend, and the police are often down there.

One thing about a bike, no front # plate, makes speed traps pointless on them.

170mph is excessive in anyones books though. Would have to be a pretty sweet bike to pull off that speed though.

Seriously though - 170MPH is just a little too fast for any public road - but I guess even on a track day he would struggle to find a straight long enough to hit that and test his top speed.

Yep like Dave, I know that strech of road quit well

As for being a sweet bike to do 170mph along it or say the A16

This is the reason I gave them up

Does that look like a bit of red overspray on that front wheel?!

I hope you're not suggesting that an RF would get near 170

What do you call near ?

A good Rf900 will do 165mph They dont call them Fireblade eaters for nothing

170mph aint fast.

Quote courtesy of Holeshot Racing;

"Holeshot's Jack Frost improves on his own existing UK Land Speed Record and is the fastest British rider on two wheels, running 257.3mph at Elvington on 11/07-06 on our 700hp hayabusa."

Now that's fast.

If they didn't find him or his bike in a heap at the side of the road or embedded in another vehicle this statement is factually incorrect. I appreciate 170 is a bit fast for a public road though as other road users would not be making allowances for something travelling this fast.
