Teenager repellers
mookaloid - 10/5/07 at 07:04 PM

I was taking my 13 yr old daughter to the supermarket the other day. I stopped outside to look at a car and she pulled me inside saying "I want to go inside cos they have one of those high pitch sound things and it's hurting my ears"

I couldn't hear it at all but there were no teenagers hanging about intimidating customers like we see nowadays.

As we walked up the high street later on she identified 2 more......

Question is where can I get one? I get kids hanging around ouside the house from time to time and they make noise, drop litter, lean on my car etc. etc.

Does anyone even know what they are called?

Cheers

Mark

Ha, I have one onmy phone...think it is a ringtone standard on some Nokias.

Not sure what it's called, but I am the only one in my office who can hear it....hahaha

actually you get the same thing (same noise i guess) with cat repellars, at my mates house one of the neighbours has one, drives everyone crazy but i dont think any adults can hear them. im sure a cat repellar thingy would be a hell of a lot cheaper than £460!

do you think one would it on a seven ;-)

Tank/Compressor would be a pain and you would definitely need earplugs in

That's interesting, I thought that the frequency was even higher for those.

I'll see if I can get a demo of one when the daughter is with me

Ok now I see - only problem there would be neighbours - they wouldn't appreciate a set of those on the top of my house

A loudspeaker playing Radio 3 or Classic FM (even softly ) is reputed to work.

UncleFista - 10/5/07 at 08:20 PM

Works on cats, can't see why it wouldn't work on surly teenagers

It'll be cheaper down here to get hold of a 9mm Uzi. They seem to be popular amongst certain shady characters.

blakep82 - 10/5/07 at 09:41 PM

we got things like that at work for scaring away seagulls...

I've got one of those ultrasonic cat detectors / repellants. On the lowest frequency settings I can hear it. Don't particularly mind it. My girlfriend hates it though- even at 20 feet she says it makes her dizzy....

peterriley2 - 10/5/07 at 10:20 PM

^^ thats because women and adolescants can hear in higher pitch than men- she can hear it much more than you, and so will pesky kids!

RK - 10/5/07 at 11:41 PM

No, that is not true, but as we age, we lose the high frequencies first. Women do not hear better than men on average, unless the man has worked in a loud environment over a long period of time and has some noise induced hearing loss.

I love the idea though; I read about it in the paper the other day.

these things realy annoy me,

if they were to put curbstones around the town centre so the bloody annoying old people on the mobility scooters cant get in and try to run everybody down it would be wrong but it is ok to do the same to young people

Confused but excited. - 27/5/07 at 06:36 PM

Try Googling 'Punctuation'.

goodall - 27/5/07 at 09:16 PM

i know people with this on there fone, pisses me off , only one teacher in my school who could hear it and she was under 30 so its not just teenagers i could see it annoying it could also be many under 30's

here in ireland we dont have these things yet, well at least not here in fermanagh, but isnt much of a problem here with people hangin around. personally if these where here it would get really under my skin and i complain to the manger of the shoping center

oh well maybe i just need to destroy my ears some more, then it won be a problem

JoelP - 27/5/07 at 09:19 PM

its an amusing idea but bang out of order really - blatent harrassment and surely illegal?

Tim 45 - 27/5/07 at 11:18 PM

Its basically a noise spike can send you an mp3 of it if you want. PM your email address if you want it.
