Helping a mate fix up a H reg golf 1.6 and we've got an oil leak from the clutch housing cover plate. Can't decide whether this is due to a bad seal (the cover plate doesn't look like it was designed to ever seal oil in) or whether oil shouldn't be getting there in the first place. It's definitely gear box oil leaking out.

Any body got any ideas?

Sounds like the input shaft seal

Depends if you can get at it from the clutch side - otherwise it's a strip through the box...
