Dammit! Belt linisher packed in.....motor probs ideas???
NS Dev - 13/5/07 at 04:26 PM

Just a quickie, my belt linisher has just packed in which is not handy with the rate I am needing to sharpen tig tungstens!!!

I may just get a new one, but just as a quick check.........

It packed in by suddenly slowing right down as i was using it, and now it won't start, but the motor is obviously doing something, humming and getting warm if I quickly flick it on.

there is nothign stopping it turning.

If I spin it up by hand then flick it on it runs but very slowly and making a strained sound at the motor.

if I try to start it from stopped it tries to go forwards sometimes and backwards others...........

Just wondered if that was a sign that the motor capacitor was knackered?

I checked it and it is not shorted, doesn't smell funny and wasn't hot, but could it still be that, of is the motor jaffered?

found some on ebay, I assume its a run capacitor as its wired in at the switch, not part of the motor.

I thought capacitors usually failed obviously (burnt or gone bang etc) but if you think it might be then i'll get one, cheaper than a sander at any rate!
