Totally non-locost but someone will know the answer Im sure!
Bought a 1992 escort xr3i, swapped the engine for a nice low mileage one. All sorted and lovely - engines a good-un by the sounds of it - BUT charging
light wont go out.
Could be my wiring up of the alternator - anyone with a diagram of the connections on the alternator side?
OR
My alternator has had it. It looks a pain to change so anyone know of a test without taking it off?
Anyone's zetec expertise is most welcome - correct answers win a 1.8 zetec block and head!!
(Buyer collects!)

IIRC the connections to a zetec alternator are:
Battery - to the big terminal marked B+
Warning lamp - to small terminal marked D+
If there is a terminal marked W, you dont need it.
Thats it.
Cheers Flak, much appreciated.
Any ideas on output at idle say from either of those pins relative to ground?
Geoff
Expect about 14V from both.
The warning light has a positive feed to it in the dash (from the battery so 14V when running), and the alternator then outputs 14v to the bulb on the
other side as well, giving you a PD of 0V across the bulb, therefore putting it out.
David
Test using a multimeter on the battery terminals, look for 13.5v to 14.5v
Thanks for that, just been out to check and Ive connected it up right - guess the alternator has had it since Im getting about 2v from each at
idle.
Cheers fellas - who wants the zetec bits then?!!
Thanks a lot, much appreciated
Geoff
I'll donate them to whoever needs/wants them
